Forest Families

Silent Shout by the Knife. Album's grown on me after a few listens ,
some cuts i find a bit daffy , maddening as the Album seems to alternate between good cuts , and slightly nutty -club odd ones (Title cut , The Captain , Forest Families yeah)
Like the synths sometimes , their treated vocals sometimes yes, sometimes no

Drum's Not Dead by Liars. Looking at the titles i could see this was prolly going to be rough,
first cut Be Quiet Mr.Heart Attack! hmmm well, alright let's hear this ...
Second cut wait a minute , sorry this went off the deck. Giving this one bk

Band Wagon Shigeru Suzuki. Guitarist from Happy End's second solo joint
I do recognize Bill Payne from Little Feat (!) pianoing away in the mix.
This goes down easier, pleasant enough, does become BGM after a while though

I’m in the midst of my annual only-listen-to-old-music-for-a-month phase, a great way to reload the batteries. Today I have finally found a Sylvester track I love, namely ‘Over and Over’; it’s all about the two breaks, with the party-crowd rumbling and chanting for, what feels like, an eternity. As with all good grooves, it just gets better and better the longer you listen (listen? DANCE!) to it, ideally it should be at least three times as long (half an hour of rejoicing!). Those handclaps...

resuscitating this thread is definitely a good idea.

Joanna Newsom - Ys. All this talk and bluster 'round these, I had to go back and check. Still love it.

Wiley - Tunnel Vision - various cuts here and there off 1 and 2. He'll be sorely missed. Can't wait for the album.

Shackleton - Blood on my hands - picked this up recently, and I've been hooked. I love the feel of the A side, and the two on the back are great too. B1, Naked, is sorta in Kode 9-y territory, with organ/melodica-ish sounds, and AWESOME sub-bass glissandos. B2, Hypo Angel, has some sort of Indian or Arab singing over a cavernous beat. Blackdown would surely dig.

today was all about Ligetti.

I listened to Chamber concerto for 13 instrumentalists, String Quartet No. 1 and No. 2, and the Ligeti Project 2 and 3 in their entirety.

started the day off with classic Klezmer recordings from the 1930s. a very nice drive to work.

and now in the office my headphones are soaking in the gorgeous sounds of Gerard Grisey's Solo Pour Deux... the Clarinette pieces are so nice... like giant cats purring!

yes yes! nothing like cold music for a cold day. recently did a mix based on this premise!!

dopplereffekt are really great, gesamtkunstwerk especially. are you pretty into omd? i've been curious about them for awhile now, but unsure of a good "jumping off point" to get into them. is there a particular record you would suggest (coming from the icy synth pop angle)?
