Symbiosis Episode 42 - Gunshae: A History Of Invocations

“When people jump through time, they give themselves up to the rhyme and reason of the heavens.”

-Julian Cope

These words are kind of the motto for Gunshae, the Panambient side project between myself, Kuma, and my dear friend and sonic sparring partner, Lady Eve.

It’s molten woodwinds and Satie references. It’s heavy drones and show tunes played by a band sitting on a veranda after too many mint julips. It’s discrete music for the wifi generation.

It’s completely improvised ambient, classical and experimental stuff and things. It’s the sort of thing where sets go by in the blink of an eye and jams disappear because we give ourselves up to time and to chance. It just is.

In the grand tradition of what we do, this piece does exactly that, it jumps through time. Taking selections from our first album, the multi-track recordings of brand new songs “Madroning”, “Air Into Gold,” “Oceanic Yet Celestial” and “Celestial Yet Oceanic” and unreleased jams with Japan’s Hataken, we’ve woven together a history of Gunshae. Completed in one improvised session, this is the way of the Gun in 35 mins.

Gunshae for the purposes of this piece were:

Kuma
Lady Eve
Aya Oshida
Hataken
Lee Hutzulak
Rowan Lipkovitz
Vanessa Stovall
Little Jen

Show Symbiosis some love, they've done some amazing work for getting new sounds out there. Big up Simon for hooking this up!
