Pitiless police persecute Plastic People. Punters pissed.

The most memorable feature of Plastic People for me was the cloakroom attendant about 4 or 5 years ago. Such poise and beauty as she elegantly dispensed tickets and hung up outerwear. But she saw right through me.

I take it you've never witnessed theo p messing with that hipass then? maybe not, I just meant that it doesn't sound as clear to me as a lot of people make out. Peep this http://www.burntprogress.com/cdr/features/interview-ade-fakile. Was in the comments section of the Fact article. Sounds promising.

yeah i've seen that and yes i've seen theo but any high freq noise will hurt a bit, i've seen aphex do a noise set in there too, that hurt, but it's not a system like the one in say that club that just closed down where its crunchy and punchy and requires earplugs just to listen to.

haha

i use to fancy the barmaid in 06.

and the french(?) barmaid who also doubled up as sound engineer in the year or so before it recently closed was saying quite a lot too. remember when she completely cut off the sound in the middle of kode9 set. she took it well. so did kode9.

went to plastic peope last friday for the Prosumer night. happy to report that little seems to have changed - same lay out, same great sound and volume, same lack of lights and frills. only major changes seem to be that they've finally done up the toilets, and searches on the door are much more thorough.

Let's Talk About Ceps
Yeah, it's pretty shitty - how can the club be blamed for that? Unless they were handing out free knives that night...I dunno, I've never been clubbing in Sheffield.

actually the booth hasn't changed at all. so far the changes are:

- carpet on the stairs
-improved bogs
-security camera at top of stairs to photograph all who enter
-new floor (the bit to the left of the pillar was all wonky and easy to trip over- it went a bit funny over the winter due to water)
-new ceiling tiles

next is the new soundsystem, which hasn't been installed yet. it will be a passive system, really nice sounding. Back to the original ethos of the club, which wasn't about bass, but about audiophile sound quality.

here's ade's only interview ever, from a few weeks ago. he explains how the system was installed and what the vision for the new system is.

its important to point out that the system (function one) was one of the first to be installed in London (ie before function 1 became the ubiquitous force it is in clubland). The space itself was never designed to host the kind of parties that it became renowned for - originally Ade himself mostly played there, playing off EMT turntables, which are built like brick shithouses and don't convey any vibrations to the record. (it takes 2 people to lift one turntable). This is what built the reputation, when you hear the sound system with the original turntables it sounds very different.
