We did this thread on vinylvulture and a load of people had found some crazy stuff - but one guy is a rare book dealer and the books he'd found made the other things look like small change. Think he found a book worth thirty thousand pounds or something.

i found a load of those phillips silver series records in a shop in truro for about £2 each - same shop the complete esg discography for less than a tenner, i used to buy stuff from there and sell it in london when i was younger - igot a pandit pran nath record i sold for alot there for a few quid too - t's closed now sadly. I sold a promo tape i was given for £60 last year. Found an orginal copy of heart of the congos for a quid when someone was clearing out their house and selling some records on the street, picked up a copy of 'lets work' by prince on 12" for under a tenner.

a couple of years back i picked up a collection of about 10 network 23 / spiral tribe 12"s from the 25p bargain bin of the m&ve in greenwich. that was a pretty good haul. sold for about £50 - £100 each on ebay at the time. more recently found a bunch of cold rush / planet core 12"s for a quid a pop on deptford market - kept hold of all those.

a couple of months back picked up a copy of horace andy 'in the light dub' lp original ja pressing from a local boot fair for 50p. that goes for a few bob according to popsike.com

i tend to do alot of my record shopping in thrift stores/yard sales/etc, so i have gotten alot of hundred dollar records for 1-3 dollars a pop... which is often how it is... the guy who found that VU acetate paid a buck for it and sold it for 20,000 or whatever and went on a trip to asia with the profits!

i haven't done that good and i don't wanna blow up any of my spots, but i will say i bought a rare psych record for a buck and sold it for 1400... only to see if i had held onto it for a while longer, a copy recently sold for about double that! however, at the time i needed money and that 1400 paid a lot of bills and rent!

i really am uncomfortable holding on to any records worth more than 100-200 dollars, b/c i feel like i will drop em or whatever and it's just money down the drain...

i got this for a buck (orig black label mono) and i am not selling it, as it is just too beautiful:

I haven't found that much valuable stuff, diggng around - quite a few interesting records, and too much chud I don't listen to, best monetary value find would be Donovan's HMS Donovan - beautiful gatefold, worth about £40 upwards.

Biggest disappointment was finding this:

... with the wrong record in the sleeve! Gutted!

Guys over on vinylvulture/verygoodplus.co.uk regularly find ridiculous stuff, still, but it's all about the hours you put in. Can't be arsed to spend my weekends that way myself.

just picked up gansta4life/asbo/bassface001/dmz6/10/11 and a bunch of other stuff for $2 ea not the greatest in here, but they've all sold (as i've got doubles spare the bassface 001) for $30+ each...got $55 for the loefah dmz one.

pretty good score in my book though ; )

The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu "1987", the album that was recalled/masters destroyed. Got it for free from a clueless friend of a friend who worked at a commercial radio station. the guy somehow had gotten a copy sent to him when it was first released, I said "hey, I've been looking for this," and he said "i don't even know what it is, take it."

not really a huge bargain but i picked up black sabbaths paranoid - an original pressing - for £3. was pleased about that.

Oh yeah i just remembered I got a KMD (mf doom) white label for £1

I dont know if its worth anything or how rare it is.

I too had that feeling like, 'you are actually going to sell me this for one English pound?!'
