This is a fantasy very deep rooted in the white male psyche. finally snapping and giving those thugs a lesson they'll never forget. Taking your country back.

It's a kind of reverse of the white saviour. The white avenger.

I regret that signing sea shanties isn't part of contemporary British life.

I suppose there are people who sing shanties but they're probably covered in fake sailor tattoos and work in creative marketing agencies in dalston.

I like how the skipper gives the steward some wine.

A noble gesture. Rare the crew would get to taste wine.

The second one is one of the worst films I've ever seen.

this is one of my very favorite horror movies. you can't possibly replicate the first one, it's a slice of hell that comes from some other realm. so you lean into pure entertainment and madcap energy. the layer of filth and grime covering everything becomes neon and bright, the climax goes from a dingy abandoned attic to an entire amusement park. from something blank and evil with no regard for human life to a dennis hopper chainsaw duel. tcm is frankie teardrop, tcm 2 is astro zombies. pure cinema. great film.

This is exactly the sort of prank I was talking about the other day. Marlowe (Elliott Gould) knows he's being followed and tells the security guard at the gated community he's visiting that the guy following him loves Walter Brennan, so the guy comes out doing an impersonation and the bloke in the car has no idea what's going on.

I'm a fan of moments from movies. I love watching short videos with cool moments from my favorite movies. What I love most are the following videos about:
- Elite
- 13 reasons why
- Riverdale
- Divergent
- After
- The Assistant
- Bacurau
I watch such videos on Netflix because they are unrealistically cool there. But there are also many of them on various video streaming sites such as YouTube or Vimeo

Watched this for the first time the other night, first Johnnie To film too. Hong Kong, but almost the antithesis of John Woo as the gunfight's about as stationary as you can get. Everyone dotted around like chess pieces.

At parents' house bored watching telly and this On The Beach ad is on all the time, has a (much discussed in this thread) dolly zoom shot, not sure if - with that title - it's a homage to the one in Jaws, either way it's a perfect example of art being effortlessly folded into capitalism. Of course I'm sure it's not the first usage in an advert, I doubt it took 65 years or whatever it was to make its way from Vertigo to ads. What you gonna do eh...

In Kiss me Deadly, his car is veering off the road. He takes it to a garage and the pull a big tree branch from under it! Makes me laugh if anything else.

the vulnerable and humiliating, childlike feeling of being so nakedly physically inferior, defenceless,, unmanned, and the dream of turning the tables, reversing the fear vector. now you know how it feels!
