I like Madonna. I would say that while Cyndi Lauper was always Cyndi Lauper, Madonna has adapted over the years.
I have been listening to this a fair bit recently. I'm not into what I would people call metal but I like this a lot. Again it has that warm enveloping fuzzy sound - I happened to mention that it was a good relaxing thing to put on as i drift of to sleep, precisely for that reason I suppose - and people looked at me rather strangely. But I think that they are wrong, their reaction is purely cos the band are categorised as metal (sort of) but if they'd actually give it a fair listen to it they would notice that the sound is warm and enveloping and almost like ambient, as a rule there are no disrupting loud bangs to wake you up. I do prefer it before the vocal comes in mind.
i mean some would say adapted others would say she stole things from other communities and people and made it look like she created it herself
i say this cause i think about how there's people who all even now will never forgive her for "Vogue"
oh sure i know what you're saying not arguing against that but it just crossed my mind especially thinking about that 120 midtown blues this she might've brought atttention to an underground scene but didn't bring any change to what they were going through and living with.she put out a lot of really good stuff before "vogue", great singles that are no more derivative than any other dance hits. what's the issue?
also, there are a million great tracks that are "stolen" from elsewhere, mainly became an issue here because of who she took from with "vogue". not saying she shouldn't be called out for it, but so what? "vogue" might be crass and shit (I actually like the music, tbh) but it brought global attention to a underground scene, bet there wouldn't have been network TV shows about it had she not.
if "stealing" is a crime in pop music, there wouldn't be pop music.
I guess when she was doing this kind of stuff right?
that was their Robert palmer coverisn't there a video for this with kim gordon singing in front of some war footage
Really? I just assumed that they were plugged in enough to know that and more... didn't she go out with Jellybean and then - is this right? - someone from Swans at one point?"downtown" new York was a blend at the time. Punks went to dance clubs, ESG would play with artsy dance bands at the Mudd Club, it all intermingled. I doubt Sonic Youth even knew Madonna had a phase like that track you posted, rich. they were into her when she was cranking out hits on a major label.
