I'm meant to be working and not reading Dissensus, but there's so much to cover on malls. The fetishisation of dead malls that was a big trend a few years ago. The focus on malls as a symbol of 80's nostalgia captured (but not started by) Stranger Things. The Chinese churning out malls that are never even used, never born let alone have the chance to die.

A great little film called Jasper Mall from last year is worth a watch: https://vimeo.com/ondemand/jaspermall

And I'm annoyed at myself for not being able to find it, but there's a couple with a YouTube channel who are slowly filming walks around every single mall in the US.

You're not meant to be working, you're being paid to work. The Universe doesn't want you to work. The Universe needs you to start a shopping mall thread. We all have a part to play in the Grand Design, we all contribute a single coloured thread to the great tapestry.

The mall in England is very much a nineties thing. We were late adopters. They don't make as much sense here. They are for places with a lot of undeveloped space. Places where there's really nothing else to do. Car cultures.

the week before Xmas 2019, I was dragged to Center:MK, that massive shopping center in Milton Keynes, Had a huge kiddies Xmas village train ride in the middle of one section with enormous mechanical animals. I thought the States was the only place with ridiculous OTT consumerism/entertainment and you guys were a bit more refined.

the true spirit of xmas
Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen's winter "wonderland" has been forced to shut down after just one day, following hundreds of complaints from angry parents.
Children promised a "spectacular" Christmas experience were left in tears after hour-long queues to meet Father Christmas, who handed out cheap plastic toys that weren't even wrapped, reports the Daily Telegraph. Meanwhile, Santa's Little Helpers sat around smoking and one mum said Santa had asked her daughter if she wanted "the ripped present or squashed one".

oh definitely, that one wasn't some cold muddy field experience. this was relatively elaborate and high tech, in an environment of mid/upscale shopping.
