I'm hoping to get my lad into this sort of thing in a few years. Living within shouting distance of Dartmoor is a big plus.Trying to source ethically produced foods, limiting their internet time and grounding them in as many visits out into the wilds as possible is what I try and sustain as a Dad. Camping, purifying water sources, cooking basic meals. All sounds a bit veteran in the woods, I know, but they love it.
If we are valuing the natural as a state of balance, perhaps there are a variety, even a hierarchy, of such states, and getting from one to the "next" higher one involves purposefully disrupting what may otherwise feel like perfect balance. Disrupting, as in, leaving the rest of the valley to "climb" some incline, exerting work and thus experiencing disequilibrium, in order to arrive at the "lower" valley, the better balance. And so on.
