What do you fear?

Libertarian capitalists? Illegal immigrants? Self-serving bureaucrats? Albanian drug dealers? The police? Computer hackers? Russian trolls?

What are your fears? Why do you fear these things? How do they influence your political leanings?

manipulation, being had being caught out or hoodwinked, found on the wrong side, exposure, being undermined and ripped off... some of the fears that motivate a lot of political positioning and action in a time of self obsession and info overload

woops

is not like other people
slow death, solitary confinement, hard labour, insanity, wasting my life with or without the help of self-serving bureaucrats more grinding poverty and the boredom frustration involved, [off the top of my head].

these aren’t my fears I was trying to be diagnostic and think about the question in relation to the self rather than outgroups. I think my biggest fear is probably complete collapse of ecosystem and economies and how much of a head melt that is gonna be for everyone, real downer

I think atm it's deregulation, concentration of wealth and mass surveillance, I worry about all three because people can't be trusted and it influences my political leanings by encouraging me to vote for whomever I think is least likely to push the hardest for those things.

The ability to parent. Half the time you’re winging it. The world that’s out there, not to be misanthropic just honest, eats souls. To mask that rational anxiety is one thing, but being open with them isn’t enough for now with Covid. Getting out is fun, bikes are fun, seasons are fun, flip it round. When they’re older and more responsible, you can ease off.

Addicts relapsing under lockdown, shocking rates. Combination drug deaths way up, again. Scotland leading the way as ever. Never treated as a public health crisis never mind before Covid. Grim Britannia.

Toxicity of nation states. Corporatism.

Thought long and hard about this and I think the thing I fear most would be Luka taking a disliking to me in the same manner in which he dislikes Mr Tea - that would be a real kick in the guts.

thats a really good answer because its honest about the forum's social dynamics.

lets not pretend mr tea disliked and not a crucial foil, something to triangulate with. he enjoys his role just as luka enjoys reacting. luka once took me aside and told me in a very morose tone that without tea he'd be nothing fwiw

It might be worth asking what @Mr. Tea fears at this stage: really good question actually......
