the israel-palestine war has been playing out in the nowadays toilets graff-wise. some differences of opinion on whether israel is a terror state. pretty surprising to see anyone at all in a place like that sticking up for israel, but i've often been surprised in nyc how much support there still is even when the reality speaks for itself . it's been playing out among the nowadays staff as well. there has been some impenetrable massive irresolvable dispute between the lead booker and the owners which seems to be related to a lot of things but includes somewhere the lead booker (dj voices) wanting nowadays to be more anti-israel and the owners not wanting to go down that kind of activist political path. she's been pushed out, ie fired, was there from the start of the club i think and is probably a pretty big part of it since she's the one who books the pretty non-boring djs and (so she says on insta) is the one encouraging them to not play it safe, to push the boat out. saw her last set at 7 on sunday morning. it was moderately boring to be fair but it was alright. there is this weird way that it's the issue du jour, slathered over everything, getting into all the crevices. a dividing line in the brooklyn culture mafia, about how committed to this particular cause one should be. by a load of people with presumably no actual skin in the game. there always seems to be a certain level of abstraction to it when it's not about you directly, however well-meaning / malevolent.

A while back RA added a political question to their mix interviews and it feels so flippant and as though they're encouraging the artists to deploy this stuff as a fashion accessory. They ask them how the mix was recorded, what they've got coming up, etc. and sandwich this between the music questions: What's one social or political cause you want the world to pay more attention to?

Gus is actually fine now hes mellowed a lot. theres no danger in seeing Gus now in his present state. we quite liked him. hes shaved his head. he even looks more normal. not sociopathic at all.
