It's part of the reason for my violent rebellion against it now. Still not fully purged from my system. the temptation to zonk out and feel nothing at all (no pleasure from music when high) is still strong.

What about modern producers?
Lots of people talk to me about Burial, but I’ve listened to that a bit, and you know, he isn’t nearly as good a producer as Basic Channel or… Someone told me that Ricardo Villalobos said he really likes our music and that he’s trying to channel it into his tracks, but we’re like, you’re a house producer, don’t look at us, look at the real house producers, the masters, the people we were influenced by. Don’t go through us.

Mark Fell falls into both sides of this paradigm. Similar patterns have developed with understandings of practices aligned to bass production and its various manifestations

@thirdform is correct about Weatherall, the constant shapeshifter in these murky waters. His productions have stood the test of time, something all the Aphex clones can only dream of, in the same way insert recent bass-specific music can’t really match any number of Dub releases

I really do not understand how can people consider cold and emotionless music as equivalent, I think in case of AE it's a similar region of nuum that grime is coming from.
Might be cold but I would not say it's empty or insincere just because it's a bit autistic and not so directly expressing emotions.
IMO IDM tends to be dysfunctional in how it's dealing with emotion, but still AE wouldn't even be on top 10 autistic electronica, quite the opposite.
