There was a TED Talk or something a while back that people on Twitter were horrified by because it was by a girl who was like ten, but wearing full make up, a fishnet dress and talking like an adult to an audience of adults whilst her weird parents, who'd clearly coached her, looked on, grinning.

Yeah, that Yeerk guy was tweeting about it. Reminded me of those American Christians who make their kids into preachers.

Wasn't Trump involved in stuff like that? I seem to remember one of the accusations against him being that he would just walk into their dressing room or something.

The whole thing's so seedy. You have to be insane to push your kid into an environment like that. Look how messed up all these child stars end up being.

The Cat in the Hat film had this sort of vibe too, that Busta Rhymes vid as well.

All those post Minaj doll rappers - there's Cuban Doll, Kash Doll, Asian Doll, Ivorian Doll, Dream Doll probably more.

That Tierra Whack has that sort of colourful childish aesthetic too, maybe not quite as sexualised as some of the others in the thread, more hipster or something

Not posting any of the videos of these though cos I don't want to shit up my YouTube recommendations feed any more than it already is, and the music is generally fucking awful.

this reminds me of an exciting new field within academia: cute studies

  • How did the historical development of cute and kawaii influence their contemporary expression?
  • How is the Western reception of Japanese kawaii influenced by prior exposure to American cute?
  • How are constructions of gendered identity shaped by these two aesthetics of cuteness?
  • How do cute or kawaii logos, mascots and “character goods” both enable and conceal the operation of institutional power?
  • How are these aesthetics of cuteness used to trigger consumption in the era of “affective capitalism,” in which emotions are manipulated for profit?
  • How do robotics and AI employ the cute and kawaii aesthetics to mediate social interactions between humans and technology?

has Gwen Stanfani been mentioned yet? I would have thought that whole Harajuku Girls thing is related to the "loli pop" aesthetic

At least Sabrina was Italian, buxom, adult and completely gash

B Shields, Natalie Portman et al all the way back to Shirley Temple, there are so many noncey film artefacts that feed into the pedo cult. “Cute” is a shortcut to “vulnerable“ under-age innocence

This thread just highlights its more bubblegum over layering by pictophilia fetishes and chronophilia (hebephilia, pedophilia but never older women although Madonna has done her best to grow that market). Larger artificial eyes convey innocent wonder. They have no art merit beyond that function

The apocalyptic Miley Cyrus baby vid, underpinned by her gravelly 100 cigs a day voice adds tension to the video because of the age-mismatches. Why is she spreading her legs, in nappies, sounding like an 80year old? Fucked up

Britney cornered this semen-flow market a while back, but it’s as old as humans, just enculturated in slightly different modes now. Even though the motifs appear different (big eyes) what lurks beneath them is as old as humans and manipulative power relations
