Anyone watching this? Everyone is complaining that the judge is biased... but is that cos they themselves are biased? I dunno but the the judge's phone rang (which is crazy in itself isn't it?) and his ring tone was the tune Trump plays when he takes the stage.
That last sentence was NOT a joke by the way, honestly.
Anyway, can someone explain the whole thing to me? What defence does he have, why does it matter etc?

I've been watching it nearly every afternoon and evening. Quite a few LOL moments, like when the guy from Car Doctor was brought on as a witness. The defence is saying "He was attacked and defended himself with lethal force, as is his constitutional right" and the prosecution's "He went in there with a gun and a bunch of rowdies knowing there'd be trouble, oh and he also plays Call of Duty, wink wink". I think he'll be acquitted.

Loads of flare-ups too, total opposite to the Chauvin snoozefest

Yeah the judge shouted at the prosecutor today. I really can't tell if he is very biased or if it's just that the people saying that are very biased themselves.

Also they keep saying "he crossed stare lines" why is that such a big deal? Especially if he lived near the state line, surely the issue is how far he went rather than if there happened to be an arbitrary line on the way.

There was that thing when he met a load of Priud Boys in a bar and posed for celebratory pics and it's being contrasted with him crying in court today - but to me that just seems like evidence that he is a bit of a thick bastard who is easily swayed by people he looks up to and dumb shit he reads on the internet. I can easily believe he broke down in court as he finally understood it was all real.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he goes down - he killed more than one unarmed person right? - I'm just saying I think he's thick and gullible rather than some evil mastermind.

For me if someone with a gun kills someone without a gun there has to be some pretty fucking strong exceptional circumstances to make it mot be murder. What is his defence? I mean i know he is saying it was self-defence but what does that mean precisely? They had attacked him, or they were going to attack him, or he thought that they were going to attack him - what?

I had a thought yesterday that this rittenhouse trial is the first trial of white good ole boy culture.

The same way the entire culture is examined every time a black person is shot by cops- we see the pics of the victim in baggy pants, tilted hats, menacing poses with his friends- were getting the same media drip with rittenhouse. The fight video in the cabelas parking lot, pics of him wearing no fear shirts drinking light beer underage in a bar- this may not connect with the euros but as a white american I feel a visceral connection to all of this. Rittenhouse is the image of white middle america suburban trash. Hes everyone I went to highschool with. He drives his lifted truck to loiter with with 15 other people in similar rigs at the sports authority parking lot. He's very proud of his older cousin who enlisted (now addicted to at least one substance) and is thinking about enlisting himself. He's the first white 'thug'

(of course someone like say trayvon and rittenhouse are categorically different in terms of guilt but you get the point)

And this is slightly different from McVeigh or Roof or all of the other white mass shooters. I dont think the cultural gaze was looking at the same things, and these people were always considered outcasts, mutant offspring of the culture rather than the ideal image of the entire culture

I was going to say "What about Kavanaugh?" but then I read the rest of your post and realised I didn't understand what you meant by "white good ole boy culture".
