the last poets

And believe me I've sat through poetry classes in school

that convinced me that written poetry had a richly deserved death

a half centrury ago

You had a bad teacher then

not so much a bad teacher, as very little interesting material to teach


we're moving into a post literate society

its not a sad thing, just natural IMO


more and more sub literate students
get churned out by my countries education system every year


a 9th grade primer from a hundred years ago

looks like things we learn in graduate school now



i like the idea of all poetry existing as living language again

when I went to school I would go into the library

and it would just be, vacant


thousands of text books that hadn't been touched for years

dead information


I don't like seeing poetry reduced to that

I like it when its recorded and disseminated

without any cultural gatekeepers getting in the way


I wanted to be a poet until I realized that poets starve to death

and get appreciated later

now i try to be a musician

sadly enough, scarboi, there still are too many cultural gatekeepers in the way...music industry, ya know?

true enough, but they don't really control the growing industry around mixtapes

or pirate radio in the UK

or live music performed in basements


or the Internet as distribution



there is a enough here to start something

there is enough here to go with whats already going on


if there is a giant intractable problem like the music industry

spending time trying to fix it won't help

we can just do our own thing with what we've got


but back to the poetry right?
