my mum works with loads of people who speak english as a second language, and she's started regularly saying 'i can't be asked' instead of 'i can't be arsed'. i think she thinks that's what its always been. it's good actually, it's a useful phrase, probably makes more sense in its new form, and doesn't involve saying 'arse'. enjoyable evolution.

It's one of those phrases that often gets taken for granite.
