yeah he's in prison in Dubai having been caught with weed and hardcore porn dvd's.

the promoter is suing his booking agency for £25000

as for the "stash of weed", under Dubai law you can be imprisoned for as little as 0.07 grams (people have been sent down for four years for smaller amounts; one Egyptian national is doing an 8 year stretch for HAVING SMOKED IT BEFORE GOING TO DUBAI AND FAILING A BLOOD TEST AT CUSTOMS).

there's a "free grooverider"group on Facebook; jungle's very own madeleine mccann.

as for what happened musically, he stopped being a leader and a tastemaker a long time ago.

damn harsh... Does anyone know how well this zero tolerance stance against drugs actually works over there ( in the emirates)? Are drugs common? With so many rich people there's bound to be drugs a plenty in Dubai?

I know a reporter who spent some time there. If I remember correctly he said there was a one establishment, open only to foreigners, where you could smoke weed. Not sure if that meant the authorities knew and turned a blind eye or if they hadn't found it yet. And I think drinking is unofficially permitted only in a few high-end hotels.

Last summer a Canadian UN worker was arrested for possession while passing through Dubai on the way home from doing opium eradication in Afghanistan. 2 poppy bulbs and .6g of hash. He got four years but was released after a few months after a lot of government pressure.

Apparently even melatonin or the contents of you urine can be enough to get you a minimum four year sentence in the UAE.

my dad works in the mid east, says drinking is definitely there, just all on the low. The rich cross borders to go party apparently.

You can get busted in Saudi for having certain (prescription) painkillers.

What made me laugh was that, in Dubai, Arabs can drink in bars as long as they don't wear Arab dress. These blokes all used to come in from Saudi for boozing weekends, but they'd hit the bars in their home dress and just get thrown out of every bar. You'd think they would have checked it out first and brought some jeans and a couple of T-shirts along
