PROG ROCK- breaking news, gossip, libel, lies etc

Rambler

Awanturnik
In Spe

Just read about this early 80s Estonian prog outfit, In Spe; apparently the composer Erkki-Sven Tuur used to write for them, blending rock and Renaissance polyphony. Could sound completely horrible, but I'm intrigued - anyone able to tell me otherwise?

heldon

i've only got one heldon record, they're a really intriguing band, does anyone have any opinion about their best stuff b4 i spend any cash?
people talk about interface, being the most exciting.

Awww - I love Heldon! 1st and 2nd albums (1st + 'c'est toujours rock & roll') are both totally essential, all fizzing and burbling Moog + fuzz and frippertronic guitar. (you can get them together on a double cd on cuneiform). i really like interface too, where jannick top and a couple of other magma-ites get in on the act, adding some rhythmic propulsion, somewhere between a propulsive motorik and a thumbs-through-beltloops glam-prog gallop. it's wicked. Stand By is meant to be in a similar vein, but more linear and almost discoid - I've not heard it though, but I should probably check it out. some of pinhas' later 70s / early 80s stuff is lush too, although the albums can get a bit patchy: iceland is a beautiful late cluster-esque pulsing synthscape, though, and east/west has it's moments (although there's a few dodgy bombastic rock moments in there)

then there's this 7" ...

<b>"We're delighted see that this thread has proved so popular with Dissensus users and that so much has been contributed to it. However, this thread (and the other "Gossip and Lies" threads) are getting so long that they are pretty unmanageable, and they're beginning to suck a bit of the life out of the forum. Virtually all of the posts here would work better and get more attention if they were in proper, smaller threads. So we're going to close this thread and all the other "Gossip and Lies" threads (other than the cricket one, which is so different from all the others that it probably still has a place). We know some of you have really enjoyed this thread so we're giving you a week (seven days from now) to make your farewell posts, then we're going to close it. After that, we'd love it if you could contribute this energy to the broader forum."</b>

a wonderful wooden reason
As clearly evidenced by the lack of Prog discussion elsewhere.

Anyway, before this thread goes, here's Diagonal:

edit

And Diagonal are interesting as a contemporary Prog group but I would most probably not have started a thread about them.

Let's Talk About Ceps
Surely an extremely long, rambling and confusing thread is the most appropriate way to discuss prog rock? ;)
