Kai Althoff is a great painter but his music (as Workshop ) is a little hit and miss.

Destroy All Monsters was formed by Mike Kelly & Jim Shaw.

Raymond Pettibon does "cartoons" and has been known to make music.

As far as I recall, all the core Raster Noton crew (alva noto etc) were/are all graphic designers. A lot of stuff they've done has crossed over the sound/visual divide, & they've obv. paid a lot of attention to the way their music is packaged too.

YES!
Theres a lot of bands/projects around Mike Kelley, Tony Oursler, Paul Mc Carthy, Jim Shaw and the rest of the click! (Pettibon did an LP with his own artwork on the cover)

JM Basquiat played in some kind of experimental hip-hop band: Grey.

Martin Kipenberger did an incredible reprise album as part of his visual art research...

Sorry for bumping up an ancient thread here, but I went to see Jeffrey Lewis last night in Durham and was really blown away. He's a really great lyricist, gets tied in with all the stupidly titled 'anti-folk' scene stuff but he really stands out for me.

Anyway, he's also a good comic artist in the underground Comix vein and sings songs along with these funny little flip-chart narratives. There's tons of good stuff on Youtube here;

My personal faves...

The Legend of The Fall'

'The history of Rough Trade'

This hilarious Nirvana tribute

and best of all, The Complete history of punk rock

Did the piece you done for FACT ever get finished Simon?
