In San Francisco all the Nu-Groove stuff is at collector prices, already. There are too many house heads and collector-geeks, and I'd guess the records didn't make it out here so much back then.

But in regard to the records still being cheap, check on Amazon US (I know, I know), last time I looked they had Best of Nu-Groove Volumes 1 through 3, compiled by Frankie Bones, for $1.11 each. Unbelievable. A sizeable chunk of their brilliant catalog for three hundred and thirty three pennies. Perhaps they're a hard sell because of their "trippy" cover art? Chasing a Yucatecan bird-relief, on acid:

As for the jams:

33 1/3 Queen, "Searchin'"
Bobby Konders, "The Poem"
Critical Rhythm, "An Illusion"
Project 86, "Legends"
Lost Entity, "Annihilate" and "Bring That Back"
Code 6, "C.O.D.E.S"
Aphrodisiac, "Song of the Siren"

Etc., Etc

i was about to post a bobby konders thread, and here it is! the nu groove things have intrigued me for a long time, but obviously there is no way i can get my hands on them outside of gemm, etc. there doesen't seem to be anything available on cd at the moment, am i wrong?

correction: there are a couple of 1995 compilations on amazon.com, as stated above. but i can't get them shipped here. *sigh*

yes, let's have a reissue of everything at decent prices! trax have just done a batch of crucial things, including TX114, virgo's free yourself. who owns the nu groove back catalogue?

pure new york city, this stuff. the mixes, i mean. sorry, i can't think straight. again, this is all incredibly inspiring. i had a similar rush with a tyree cooper tape in 1998, the soul of the city pouring into my ears.

The bassline on 'The Poem' is just the killer house bassline of all time, does me in everytime.

Yea Bobby Konders ,
we used to listen to the radio just to catch his mixes ,
as MMS lists .
Some of the Dancehall stuff was nice and electro - hybrid -ish , made it different at the time.

Gigolo did that rerelease of his stuff a few years back

Enjoying Woebot's comment about 'Arthur Russell',
I dunno if New Yorker's will really need to 'rediscover' Konders or make it a 'hipster' thing,
as he was well dug in the underground at that moment and radio was free ...

But come to think of it , the young un's should hear him and catch up sometime !
Viva Bobby , so solid , dig 'em

Funny you should mention Bobby Konders. I got this CD also compiled by Frankie Bones really cheap locally a month or two ago:

Amazon seem to have a few copies cheap if you're the non-DJ type who can live without the vinyl.

Top stuff. Although I'm not keen on his "Let there be House" track.

The Heatwave
massive b reggae and foundation dancehall riddims are almost always good, and though they're pretty much always relicks of old riddims (e.g. cuss cuss, answer, sick, sleng teng, truths & rights) the productions are heavy and have a very nice sound. however, their bashment stuff is much more hit and miss (wanted was wicked, rah rah was ok, old stuff like yard bounce and dun dem are very mediocre). however, i find his voice really fucking annoying on his radio shows... don't know any of his house stuff, except a reggae/house remix i've got of a chronicle tune which is quite fun...

gasoline for haters
while people are dissing massive b I'd just like to pipe up and say he has done A LOT for reggae in NYC through his Hot97 show. There was a massive roots upsurge in recent years with Jamrock and other tunes getting into the normal rotation on Hot97, which had never happened before and it seems Mr. Konders had a lot to do with that, so credit where it's due.

Beast of Burden
To be fair, I think Jamrock would have done, but yeah, that's absolutely true. I've got a lot of time for him, but just rate him much more as a house producer than anything else
