UK landline / broadband recommendations

There might have been a thread on this before, but things move fast.

I need to get a land-line installed and sign up for a broadband service.
Anyone recommend any fantastic deals out there?
There's a BT socket here - not connected, and I'm not interested in TV.

I'd rather not be tied into a 12 month contract though...

I've heard good things about Tiscali. Avoid BT's broadband service though; I'm tied into because of work, but it's been pretty hassly in the past and rubbish when anything goes wrong.

zen.co.uk are worth checking out, they cost a bit more than some, around £17.99 for 2GB a month, or £24.99 (inc tax) for 20GB per month, 8MB line, no upload caps.

they have excellent support, and you can buy more gigs that rollover each month for around £1/1.50 each.

the best thing for me is that they have 7 days usenet retention, you soon use your gigs up though.
