Those could all equally be correlation, rather than cause, of course. I think from those data to say that "depression and anxiety... can happen to anyone who smokes cannabis on a regular basis" is an unsubstantiated jump.

Obviously some people have a tendency towards mental health problem issues, and should probably avoid.

It's a logical conclusion. Okay, perhaps you're right - maybe cannabis is not the cause, but there still exists some pervasive trait in cannabis users that makes them more susceptible to these problems.

Not weed-related as such, just an example of the quality of drug 'journalism' found in most UK newspapers: a story about some kiddie who nearly died after eating some of those plastic beads that are apparently metabolised into 'DATE RAPE DRUG GHB' in the stomach. Not 'GHB, a depressant commonly used recreationally for its alcohol-like effects', you'll notice. Hasn't the stuff been implicated in something like a single rape, ever, in the whole of the UK?

Edit: hahaha, good old BBC! To illustrate the concept of a DATE RAPE DRUG, they've got someone squirting a syringe (because DRUGS come in syringes, right?) into a glass of scotch (which is what today's young-woman-about-town drinks on a night out, naturally).

Why certainly I would be more than glad:
Cannabis use and psychosis
Cannabis use and mental health in young people
Cannabis use in adolescence and risk of adult psychosis
Cannabis and mental health

You can also use Google Scholar, just search medical or psychology journals and use the right keywords and you'll find a number of studies with similar findings.

Hmm, just found this, from Guardian Unlimited a year ago:

The A[dvisory] C[ommittee on the] M[isuse of] D[rugs] report published yesterday concludes that evidence on its mental health links is not strong enough to justify changing the status of cannabis to class B. "The current evidence suggests, at worst, that using cannabis increases the lifetime risk of developing schizophrenia by 1%."

so no one would recommend salvia?
I would, if you're comfy with that kind of thing. Only done a 40x extract a few times, but with a mild dose there was exaggerated gravity, time distortion and general wobblyness. A bit tricky getting a major dose because I had to take 2-3 hits back to back, however that warped reality into a supravisual time-stretched sense-melded synaesthetic fractaline vortex like so many crappy computer generated rave visuals come to life, only more amazing and incomprehensible.

Perhaps a better reference is a densely patterned animated patchwork quilt, like this only more so:

Practically a bimonthly ritual over here... I suppose I could ask some of the local Two-Sixers for the hookup, but those teardrop tats are so intimidating...

I am much, much more happy than scared that you are a part of the education system responsible for the shaping of young minds. :D

I thinks its fair to say that different drugs will affect different brains in different ways at different times. Skunk is a different drug to the 5%THC cannabis that my parents were toking in the late 60's. Genetically engineered bud that has THC levels over 20% is an odd thing in its self. It obviously didnt evolve naturally to be that potent and i cant help but think that its gone too far and is now more of a blind sport than an a conscious decision to improve cannabis's all round affects.
Personally skunk just fucks me over, it takes control immediately and leaves very little room for conducting my own experience, something that has been at the heart smoking for hundreds, thousands of years. I think the main problem with cannabis culture is that it advocates the silly strong stuff. Stoners generally boast about the potency of their shit or how they smoke skunk everyday... Now i usually have a few beers of an evening, but thats the equivalent of getting drunk on whiskey every day. Its a culture of extreme tolerance and its pure machismo at its core. Combining brain altering chemicals with the intense pressures of male performance is dangerous. i wouldnt be at all surprised if mental illness in its different forms is to rise fairly consistently as long at this culture persists.

it's not genetially engineered. its a product of selective breeding which is quite different. the cannabis our parents smoked was also the product of selective breeding, at a less intense level. if you can't handle skunk don't smoke it. some people find a glass of wine goes straight to their heads, ok, don't drink more than that then. i don't smoke skunk every day but i can smoke skunk an eighth of skunk in an evening quite happily and still able to engage people in conversation, read, write, go out on the town etc. as you say, it reacts differently with different brains, you, in the langage of 'pure machismo' are a lightweight, and there's no shame in that. but don't knock skunk becasue it has a bad effect on you.

My bad, but its not that different, its just a longer road to the same destination (stronger weed). right?... Now you say you can smoke an 8th in a night and maintain your creative freedom, thats great, in fact what i was saying is that its the privileged status to be in. The problem is for 'lightweights' like myself who are pressured (particularly as teenagers) to smoke beyond their limit. Not only is it biologically dangerous but it usually involves some kind of social subordination. Bearing in mind that i was talking about culture at large; you say theres no shame in it, your wrong.

yeah true, who hasn't 'greened out' before...

i was just saying, you know, one of the nicest things i ever drunk was a single malt whiskey that was about 60%. i really like a nice skunk too. like all that jack herer that came into london a few years back, i mean, just a very very nice thing to smoke.
