Thanks to tabloid hysteria over peadophilia, of which the whole Maddie episode is the most recent incarnation, there's now a phantom nonce on every street corner and in every park. The reality is that the vast majority of abuse is committed by a relative, step-parent, 'carer' or some other adult known to the victim.
Add to this parents' awareness-campaign-induced terror that their kids could get run over or offered drugs the moment they set foot outside the front door and is it any wonder we've got a nation of overweight, unhealthy, suspicious, alienated kids?
