genius film soundtracks

Joe Strummer's finest moment was the sountrack to Alex Cox's Walker. I don't know if the film was ever even released in the uk as I have never managed to see it at the pictures or on video, but the album is great. Music/songs are tex/mex country style. Also some great concerts at the time as funraisers for Green wedge/Rock the Rich where songs were played from the soundtrack.

Morvern Callar

one I do not own, but I have sometimes thought of buying:
the Morvern Callar soundtrack.
read the book (so much better than "High Fidelity"), seen the movie, no T-shirt, no soundtrack.

But it looks rather good, probably a bit too chilled out.

When I read the book I was always wondering if all the music mentioned
in the book was real.

I have just looked up Ronald Shannon Jackson and he seems real enough.
He sounds like he could have played with the Bowie brothers (Defunkt and Art Ensemble of Chicago).

I still suspect that Alan Warner made up some of the bands&names -
someone with vast knowledge/internet access and legions of time could go through the book
- there's thesis material in there.

Morvern Callar soundtrack tracklisting (book recommended to me after discussing Can or
Radiohead or something).

1. I Want More - Can
2. Goon Gumpas - Aphex Twin
3. Every Thing You Do Is a Balloon - Boards of Canada
4. Spoon - Can
5. Blue Milk [Edit] - Stereolab
6. I'm Sticking With You - The Velvet Underground
7. You Can Fall - Broadcast
8. Cool in the Pool - Holger Czukay
9. Hold of Death
10. Some Velvet Morning - Lee Hazlewood
11. Japanese Cowboy - Ween
12. Fragrance - Holger Czukay
13. Nannou - Aphex Twin

I love Angelo Badalamenti's

Straight Story OST

The Folky madness of The Wicker Man

and I also think Garden State's soundtrack works really well

DigitalDjigit

Honky Tonk Woman
Interstella 5555
Space is the Place

Ok, I am cheating there. I second "Forbidden Planet" and suggest "Coffy", in fact didn't a lot of those blacksploitation movies have great original funky soundtracks.
