Origins of Goth

Yeah that's odd. I typed that and thought it was a spelling mistake, but apparently it's a real thing. Like the real ale of cider or something. Ah, also American for cider.

Whoa, check this anti-post-modernism rage on the Sisters' homepage:

http://www.thesistersofmercy.com/gen/rrr2.htm

The Sisters revel in the negative as well as the positive, but they do this because it's even more important to address the world we live in if we want to make that world better. Post-modernism douses its terror in a cheap dress and parades it as the best we can hope for, with a funny handshake and the feeble excuse that history is dead.

A friend of mine used to be a goth, she once went to a big fetish goth night at electrowerkz and got slapped quite hard by a woman dressed as a nazi for smiling too much.

I believe the term goth in relation to post-punk bands was first used in relation to Luton band UK Decay in Sounds in 1981:

I'm not sure whether you'd count Luton as the North (well it's north of Watford). I've written about my ,mid-80s semi-goth nights out there here:

Also, something about goth and other clubbing in Sheffield 1984:

Ok, fine I admit it, I like Nine Inch Nails, OK?! :)

Ha, NIN is to goth as Green Day is to punk, surely? ;)

Having said that, I do have a lingering fondness for the first album.

The Quake soundtrack is much better, though. :D

Green Day's first album was alright too, but having said that Nine Inch Nails' first album is my least favourite one (if you don't count With Teeth, or their most recent which I didn't bother checking out).

Quake was pretty goth, wasn't it.
