In the shop I heard a cover version by some boy band wotsit of "The Hounds of Love" and I thought. The audience of this wont probably know the original, won't be so familiar with it that the ploy of covering it seems completely pointless.
And then I flashed on Reynolds recent comments about what lets called "Shruggism":
The "aging junglist" is a fair comment. It's totally accurate! But being one, i've now got a bit more sympathy for those older types who when i was ranting on about Loop or MBV whoever reinventing/rebirthing rock tended to have a shruggy reaction.
And i suppose it struck me that pop is nothing but a sliding window. Certainly with regards to cover versions which seem to infect (maybe less so in the last year with the abatal of all these pop contests) the mainstream. You're just not supposed to listen to it for longer than 15 years tops.....
