credit crunch - conscious consumers contemplate coping

haji

lala
so what are your best coping strategies??
the meeedia seems full of it, (Nigella's credit crunch xmas lunch!!!)

what is the best thing you've done to beat the recession? share any canny anecdotes please?

apparently the fine art and sex trades are already feeling the pinch, as are superyachts and private jets
i'm still concerned that curbing my cappucino consumption was one of the drivers of the economic downturn but i have not yet invested my savings in tinned food

any tips for the world's leaders as they put their dandruffy heads together?

My tip is to invest everything you can in indepedently produced magazines covering reggae, grime and dubstep.

Well isn't a rhyme with "credit crunch" what they put in instead of a pun on "weapons of mass destruction" these days?

Interesting, according to an article in the Guardian today which has looked at the biggest directory of requested numbers, one of the few sectors that has seen an increase (along with numbers for bailiffs and house clearing services) is the sex trade, apparently requests for "pole and lapdancing outlets were up 469%, calls for escort agencies rose by 40%, and calls for sex shops increased by 1,312%". Maybe people phone these things when they are depressed and then decide not to bother when they realise how much it's going to cost them.

"But John, how can I do this?"

Ah watch this space - there may be a special opportunity coming up in the next few weeks! ;)

All I have done so far is argue the toss at work as part of the usual trenchwarfare which happens this time every year when the budgets get set. I think I am pretty much safe for another year.

I am putting together a spreadsheet of household outgoings and income tho, which I have avoided doing for most of my life.

And vowing to:

a) spend more time listening to records I have already bought rather than acquire new ones
b) cook more
c) bulk buy booze rather than do six-4-fives or bottle by bottle

none of this will amount to anything if I lose my job or my partner's work dries up tho.

I see Credit Crunch - or maybe 'Kredit Krunch' - as a breakfast cereal with bits of chopped-up Visa card in it.

I'm broke anyway, so my if I lose my crummy admin job I'll be even more broke.

I was gonna get a laptop on interest-free credit, think I'll leave that for now... suppose it's little things like that which slow down the economy even more, oh well.
