sex noises and electronic music

[memories of driving round the Rif mountains having the most awsome 'dirty house' c90 basting away on the kif farms]

what happened to hardcore gay porno house? all evidence of it has disappeared - anyone remember some early tracks?

This would be pre- lil louis- 'french kiss', just before/during the kids screaming 'acid'. i.e. when the 'e' techno/deep house thing was limited to the gay community (many musical inteligencia/media whore historians seem to forget this and mainly/only cite shoom etc...)

that 'sounds of love' record is HILARIOUS

one or two tracks actually have their synth (can't recognize it from the picture) playing sleazy bass lines while a woman moans through one of the filters. most of the rest of it are just orchestral recordings like 'bolero' played through the same filter. it is not good music but it's worth it for the pictures (though I have to admit, towards the end of the first track, she's sounding like she's having actual fun)

the henry 'variations for a door and a sigh' isn't sex music as much as wank music. the sections where the door is squeaking back and forth super fast and the saw is making those pinging sounds, followed occasionally by the 'sigh' sound... ludicrous

toshiro mayuzumi's 'works for musique concrete Y' from (1953) contains some pretty wild manipulated sex sounds in a collage, that might be the most overt first instance in concrete actually, though you never know, there's always something turning up. http://www.earlabs.org/label/LC/LC010.htm

I can't believe no-one's mention Windowlicker!

There's the obvious momentary breakdown in middle where you hear the orgasmic gasps/squeals, but the entire track seems to made somehow out of sexual groans and so forth. Anyone know more? I'd love to hear more. The sheer genius of making a faux-rnb track out of sex noises...

there's a strong vein of scatology running through all electronic stuff, especially post-AFX/rephlex/warp/ stuff. even if it's just vulgar titles. I think it's something to do with having a neutral, inorganic set of sounds and interfaces leaving people with the security to do this stuff - just the idea of bedroom producers is sexual if not exclusively masturbatory...

is there a difference between 'real' and 'fake' sex noises - that David Voorhaus/White Noise track is not using 'real' sounds is it? In the context of this thread, though i guess it's not all that big a deal; maybe sometimes a groan is just a groan.

apparently it was using both real and faked groans...

"Actually that was the idea on my first album, White Noise 1," laughs David. "There was a track where I created a synthesized electronic orgy and then combined that with the sounds from a real one. I recall we actually had half a dozen people 'at it' and we were going round with a microphone! We used it in loops and stuff, but as it turned out, we only managed to get banned from Harrods! A shame really."

from the cincinnati city beat:

"Birds do it. Bees do it. And like humans, they often make strange "music" in the process. Next month The Residents are back with a new album on Mute Records that makes new music from the chippings and rhythmic mating sounds of coitus (non-interruptus). Titled Animal Lover, the new CD takes recordings of frogs, cicadas, whales and other animals and whips the processed sounds into songs like "Mr. Bee's Bumble" and "What Have My Chickens Done Now?" A 52-page booklet promises to be a picture book of animal tales and animal love. ..."

There’s also the great, voluptuous, disco track ‘Pazuzu’ by Tony Silvester & the New Ingredient, which has recently been re-edited by Prins Thomas. Mostly female groaning, but there’s also, what sounds like, a man deep down there in the mix. Most agreeable.

Recorded sex noises just remind you of porn rather than of actual sex. Because that's sort of what sex becomes when it's recorded. You can't really get away from that type of nudge-nudge-wink-wink cheesiness with this type of project can you?

Well, sex is cheesy, it’s just that you don’t notice it when you get deep down and dirty. I see what you mean though: most of these tracks are not really inciting. (And, mostly, that’s not the point, I think.)

i remember hearing samantha fox - touch me as a kid on the radio and my mum walking by exactly when samantha said 'oh oh, i'm begging you', it was an embarassing moment. i thought the 'oh oh' bit was genuine sex. this depressed me in a 'my childhood is over' sort of way. damn you, samantha, damn you!

any picture of enjoyment via sound or image or whatever is a bit obscene, a bit pornographic. it doesen't necessarily follow that on hearing sex you'll feel aroused, quite the opposite, as opposed to when you hear someone laugh, i don't know why that is. perhaps because in sex desire dies out when everything has been discovered?

not to mention that most women's "orgasm noises" are pure theatrics and have nothing to do with actual orgasms, so you're getting to like 3rd order simulacra
