personality tests

In the early days of the internet, this sort of thing was all the rage, and I remember taking tons of these. I used to try to manipulate the results and still I'd score similarly on the more legitimate-sounding psychologicalistical ones.

Since I was recently reminded of them, I just revisited a "Myers-Briggs" type personality test.

Looks like I'm an INTP.

I'm curious about what others are. I'm guessing Zhao is an ESFP. Mr. Tea is likely an ISTJ.

Mr. Tea

Personality tests, yay. "Let me tell you about my mother..."

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value=""></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Interesting - and not a little sinister - how the CoS uses tests of this kind to persuade people they have all sorts of personality defects which, of course, only 'dianetics' can fix (for a not-so-nominal fee). I saw the South Park episode about this for the first time just the other day, funnily enough.

this is hard! cant decide some of these :slanted:

I know...some of them, it's like, neither choice really fits well. But somehow, in the end, I must have chosen correctly because the INTP profile makes the most sense for me. I read through them and it really does seem to fit better than the rest. I think it's more about the combination of all of your answers or something.

Really kinda ridiculous.

The chances of actually being able to answer these questions accurately and honestly are slim to none. Maybe a close friend would be able to answer them for me, but then I'd probably disagree with him.

Like I'm not the same person all of the time, I could easily select both depending on my mood, most of them are questions about who you'd like to be, not who you are...

ENFJ for me. Questions are stupid though, for instance

"Do you value in yourself more that you are

just and impartial
merciful and forgiving"
What if I'm unjust and unmerciful - or I'm merciful and forgiving but hate being that way? Surely all you can do is toss a coin and the number of questions that you will have to decide that way is going to significantly affect the result.
I don't like the way they spell "extravert" either.

Heh, "Your personality type is ENFP" - opposite of an ISTJ. :D Which is odd, because I am very judgemental.

No way, really??

Well, it's obviously a load of shit, but it's fun in the same way astrology is fun. It's like hyperstitionally valuable if you have a lot of time on your hands.

INTP. I very strongly over E, ditto N over S and T over F, but P not particularly much more than J.

These test are fun. They ask you, in a not especially roundabout sort of way, "what sort of person do you think you are?", then they tell you, "aha! you're this sort of person!"

In their proper usage, they're supposed to direct your attention to the self-limiting aspects of the persona they measure. It's supposedly important to pay attention to what's on the flip side of each of those coins. There are "I"s whose relationship to the social world "E"s face up to with pleasure is infantile and evasive, "T"s who are in complete denial about their own emotional intuitions about things, and so on.

The other kind of useful lesson the M-B tests convey is that it takes all sorts to make a world...

Hm yes like when a fortune teller says "something bad is going to happen" and then, eventually, something bad happens and you think "she was right!"

But, tbh, these profiles I'm reading match up more with what various teachers, relatives, and friends have told me than they reflect what I would prefer to think about myself. I'd rather be something more spiritual like a "healer" or at least I'd rather not be someone who has "no common sense"...
