Anyone else see this? I thought it was alright but I was hoping that there would be a stronger relationship between the visuals and the music. They weren't really tied together that much, not much rhythmic synching etc. But there were some nice moments. The production values were a bit low too. Sometimes it felt like you were watching a powerpoint presentation.

The short Q&A after was more interesting I thought.

Yeah they looked pretty cheap and 80s.

I saw the 8pm screening and when I walked out who should be stood in the queue for the 10pm screening on his own looking a bit lost....kode9!

I loved Jeff Mills in person, is it me of does he actually look like an alien - it's the very high cheek bones and delicate face structure coupled with his tiny frame..looks almost lizard like (an a cool way of course). Thought the guy interviewing him was shit and annoying though.

Haha yeah I saw kode 9 on the way out as well but didn't think it was him at first because you wouldn't expect him standing there in the queue. Hence the lost look on his face I guess!

Yes and those bulbous eyes...

The interviewer was a bit pitchfork wasn't he

This was a total mess at Sonar, but then again it was performed live. Actually wanted to head down yesterday to see how it was in a more sedate atmosphere, but both screenings were sold out before I got myself organised.

As Pestario says, the visuals are well Windows MovieMaker and the music itself not necessarily Mills at his best.

I'd imagine a Q+A would be worth the ticket price alone though. What did the man have to say?

Lol.

I don't read Pitchfork much but maybe that's because some of those 'forkers try to ape Kodwo's style? Then again he is well known for his love of Pavement and Sigur Ros.

Well he wasn't hugely articulate to be honest, just came across as a really nice guy, bit geeky, well into outer-space and sci-fi and dead creative. He chatted a bit about the process behind building it with Rob Hood and Mike Banks, how they divided the work between the three of them.

Kodwo Eshun was chatting about the post-human afromusic diaspora blablabla and I think must of the crowd just wanted him to shut up and let Jeff talk as the time was limited.
