it would be seriously wicked if fwd invited seiji or ig or marc mac or someone down to do a set. 4hero are pretty damn nummy.

they did, Bugz played about four years ago, when there was more of a dialog between on one hand Zed Bias, Landslide and Jayda on one side and the whole broken camp on the other. That time has long since past (though you can hear it on the Bugz fabric cd...)

lol excellent

Yeah - better to keep Funky on that raw gutter grimey street shit like Crazy Cousinz remixes of Shontell.

"you done know" (c) old skool days!

you lot dashed Bassline away like some stale piece of Ryvita lol...damn

BB is a big music when done well. it would be sick if FWD did that. didnt it start out doing that?

Funky and BB will meet and when it does it will be...glorious. they already do...kinda

CC were lucky to find that 'woooh' pad - it sounds sick on almost every tune. all you have to do is play with it (pitch it down, up, backwards) on some mad broken type Funky instrumental rhthyms and it will take it to a next level

oops I think I just predicted one of their next moves...lol

nah i know, like on bugz' cd you had tracks by guys like artwork, but im saying dego and marc mac and most of those guys are still about, if not doing much (tho theyre still putting out occasional releases), so it would be cool to see how what theyre up to these days could find a home at fwd. theres got to be someone from bb whos still doing something on the fringes, im out of the bb loop to know who though.

Anyone got a link to a good broken beat mix?

I've got the Bugz fabric CD but apart from that I haven't heard much.

As noted earlier in the thread, Alex Phountzi from Bugz is one half of Green Money.

Seiji's remix of Jazmine Sullivan is much more raw than Crazy Cousinz'.

Broadcite have a show on Rinse now, don't they?

Would be interested to know what Afronaut is up to these days:

I think there was an element of self-sabotage in the Broken Beat scene. A lot of them had been around a while and had perhaps been through the processes of other scenes (like drum and bass), so I got the impression most of them fought against the idea of being a "Broken Beat DJ" or "Broken Beat Producer". So there are very few landmark Broken Beat mixes. People like Seiji and the Bugz never put out a whole album of their big Broken Beat bangers. Things would have perhaps been different if such things had happened.

Bugz did a mix CD for Breakin' Point magazine too. I'll try and up it. Quite a bit of crossover with their Fabric mix though.

One of the best nights of my night was getting down to Tom Churchill do the most blinding, intense, super-wonked broken beat set in Glasgow back in, ooh, 2004, maybe 2003. Simply achingly funky! Not tasteful or chin strokey at all, it was very dirty.

Then again Tom's one of the best DJs in the uk, did some fantastic dubstep too.

If UK funky house gets a bit of that it will make me very happy indeed!

I just dont know
Goya - their Ammunition - has long since closed down. Is it some different broken beat scene?

ppl looking for the meeting point of funky and broken would probably enjoy Ear Dis, Simbad and Danny Native if they haven't already. also Arms (half of Ear Dis)

What's that funky tune that samples the drums of an old Bugz remix of Vikter Duplaix? Was on a Marcus mix I think, can't find it atm...

it must be quite old and i've totally missed it again though, as there looks like there has been loads of 'activity' around it.

DJ Mujava came through my little town over the weekend. Pretty empty crowd at a small club however people were getting on with it. That was my first hit of kwaito house and it was good, very good. Seemed like a very humble guy too. I didnt recognize any funky in there, not that I thought he would be playing any (has he been known to play any?), but would anyone be able to point me to what the hell it was that he was playing? -There was one track in there that distinctly reminded me of a Voodoo Ray remix, one of the ones with a bit of added staccato drum action ala Geeneus - Into The Future.
Some of the vocal tunes though, damn.. the slightly pitched up male vocals in one of them was like some paranoia of erogenousness.;)
...hope this is the right thread....
