So we're at the semi final stage and nobody has been able to knock any premiership sides out. Again. Got a feeling that might change in the next round though.

Where were you on the Grand National thread?

haha

it's not hard to predict the premiership winning this stuff.

the brightest side of the chelsea - liverpool match is the fact we won't have a man utd - liverpool match in rome. that would be carnage.

right then, barcelona are favourite for the chelsea match, but i'm still backing chelsea. and i reckon arsenal will do man utd too - in fact i'd back arsenal over any team left there to make the final. wenger will have his vengeance, so to speak.

there's no reason to back chelsea over barca other than: chelsea may have had a poor season in the premiership but they're playing in the strongest league in europe. barca were awesome in that first half against bayern, but they struggled against lyon at stade gerland.

now barca are bossing the spanish league, but this is a league where real madrid have only failed to win one game since they lost to barcelona on december 14th (juande ramos' first game in charge). and liverpool destroyed them.

if chelsea can control barca at nou camp (easier said than done, esp with ashley cole suspended), especially if they grab an away goal, then they can definitely go through.

Darned cockwombles.
Where you can watch the 2003 CL final - a technically magnificent 0-0 Milanese derby where the only moment of true drama was watching the Milan keeper charge about 10ft from his line, unpunished, during the penalty shoot-out - on loop.

Nah mate, I can't stand most Italian football - I'm into skill, not tactical nullification. I just think there's a predictable tendency to call any 4-4 draw a great game. If so, go watch basketball! They do 89-88! If we permanently injured Terry and merked Rio for good, then we could have 4-4 draws between the top clubs every week....

Good call on Netherlands-Czech game - now that WAS a corker full of skill.

Guardian article just reminded me of another one - Man Utd away at Coruna in 2001-2 - 2nd or 3rd best display of football I've ever seen, personally.

I'd back another all-Premiership final too - how are Barca gonna cope with Drogba on this form? Plus, with Terry back (I presume?), Chelsea can concede less than 4this time.

As for Arsenal-Man U, I'm fascinated. WAY too tight to call. It's Wenger-Ferguson at the deep end for the first time in 5 years - great stuff. I really hope Arsenal do it, just to silence all the idiots criticising Wenger earlier this season. He's a one-eyed Frenchman, sure, but what belief in one's own philosophy; I respect that.

Both the cup semis were rubbish, but it's good to see Everton in the final. Hope they win. The rest of the weekend's football was unspeakable.

Anyway, back in the mists of time, this thread was about the crazy finances of a certain multi national corporation in the North West. This is a few weeks old, but worth reading. Man U's debts are being sold in the City at huge discount.

Can anyone explain what that means for Man U? Are they in trouble? Is this a sign that their debts might go unpaid?

You're clearly overlooking Brighton's second consecutive win, Crewe's defeat and Carlisle's last minute loss of two points. Brighton now one game and one point behind, and all three remaining games against teams with nowt but pride to play for (touch MDF).

Agree with you, hucks, re yesterday's games.

On Man Utd debt, the market obviously thinks that the chance of default is increasing, but that judgement isn't necessarily going to effect the likelihood that it will happen. As the article explains, Man U pay a lot to service their debt, but they also make a lot in operating profit. I guess there's a doomsday scenario involving the loss of Old Trafford, but who the fuck is going to buy Old Trafford anyway? We'll be fine. Everyone's jittery about the economy is all.

I am totally fucking delighted for you...

No, really if we are going down (and we are), I'd like Brighton to be in the same league. But I really want to be in the same league as Newcastle.

Edit: OK, Vim, that seems fair enough. Certainly their turnover is enormous these days.

That'd be fun. I'd also like you to be in the same league as Blackburn, especially after Fat Sam's dismal showing as Fergie's yapping dog last week.

Maybe a late Boro revival can make both come true.

Quite a night all round. This stage of the season is so weird, cheering late goals from Coventry and what have you. Andrei Arshavin is class, tho...
