bandz ahoy
Put on some of those DJ Nate tunes the other day, some of them are great. It reminds me so much of hardcore/old hip hop the way the samples are dropped in and timestretched/pitched up and down etc. A lot of dance music nowadays can be a bit too clean and lacking in ideas/switch ups. A lot of what the fuck moments.

Still dunno how I'd dance to it though, haven't heard anything except 'Footcrab' out which is more rhythmically straight than juke proper (do love that tune though).

Thanks staypuft! When I get a freetime, I'll search high and low for it and get back.

I've been alternating between swinging about like an embarrassing dad at a wedding clapping on the halftime snares and jumping up and down while banging my head. It's nice to see when that "eski" track comes on in that video and they all whoop that none of them know how to dance to it either, aside from doing the footwurking stuff, they're all just kinda bobbing up and down, a bit like grime kids do.

oh. my. dayz.

the track at 3:58 in this vid is incredible. super simple and stripped down.. it sounds like a chopped and hyped version of perculator.. think I Care Because You Do era Aphex versus Wiley???

not to mention the awesome sample lift right before this song.. strawberry letter 23 footwork.

btw mistersloane, your acid juke track is in the beginning of this vid.. maybe it's by Rashad?

there's also loads of hype tracks near the end.. intense halfstep booty beats

luckily this vid has tagged IDs-- 3:58 = Rashad, "Gutta Tek", doesn't seem to be released

I noticed this a couple days ago: DJ Rashad's EP is up exclusively on http://ghettophiles.com/2/index.php/

I put in an order (with some difficulty - the paypal method didn't work) and it wasn't til today that my download was made available. the tunes are awesome.... but they're at 128kbps and probably unmastered, rendering them useless for club play. anyhow thought I'd give y'all a heads up. at least now I can show my pals what I've been raving about for near a year now - footwork!

4NR, at the end of one of those vids it says 'all tracks to be released on ghettophiles.com'. which is kinda good news considering the above..

misconceptions on Juke/Footwork

I don't know if anyone got to this before me, but I'm from Chicago, and I found this forum through youtube insight, in which someone posted this somewhere on this page, probably on this forum.

In any case, to give you guys a better idea of the scene...

The juke tracks that everyone knows out here is:

Juke That - Gantman & DJ Rashad
Bounce - DJ Clent
Get Down Lil Mama - Traxman
Bounce N Break Yo Back - DJ Spinn
Get Money N Juke - DJ Nephets
Bang Ski - DJ Chip, originally made by DJ Clent.

Those were the tracks on the radio.

Now footworking has gone through a huge evolution. The first real footwork track that changed the sound between juke and footwork was the Godzilla track by RP Boo:

DJ nate made footwork tracks, but he stopped making footwork stuff to become R & B. And it's only after he made a R & B song for the radio did his footwork stuff blow up.

Also, Tha Pope is popular because he has a public access show. He actually hasn't made a good track that people are trying to really listen to...at least not in the past 3 years.

If you watch most recent youtube.com/walacam videos, as well as youtube.com/ghettotekz videos, most of the tracks are made by Dj SPinn, DJ earl, and DJ Rashad. These may not be familiar names...until you see that they've worked with Godfather, Funk, and DJ Benzi. They're extremely popular with internationally touring dj's because they are the best at the music they make. They're on Itunes, Beatport, blah blah blah, the list goes on.

But the sound has definitely evolved from the crappy youtube videos most of you have seen, where a track is literally some random toms, a kid hitting a clap somewhere, and a sample played at random times at random speeds. Literally, you can admit thats what it sounds like, because thats what it was. A lot of the stuff on youtube was just that, stuff on youtube.

If you're interested from learning about this culture, from someone whose in it, and has a weekly event which pulls out regularly over 200 footworkers on a sunday night, hit me up.

BTW, I'm the one who runs the youtube.com/ghettotekz page, so I know what I'm talking about.

My apologies for the ghettophiles site. I've spent nearly 2500 on 3 different developers, and simply just put the project on hold. Only a few days ago did I notice that people were actually using the site, and buying stuff off it!

If you need some 320 kpbs versions, gimme your e-mail, and I'll work something out.

Second Thought

With over 300 comments, there has to be someone here that knows how to work Magento.

I know this is my third post on this subject, but basically, I run my own juke/footwork label, Ghettophiles, and have a website up, called Ghettophiles...however, I've spent $2500 with 3 developers, and don't have a fully functional site.

IF ANY OF YOU KNOW HOW TO WORK MAGENTO, AND WEBSITE DESIGN, CONTACT ME.

I will either pay you with cash, or with a lifetime supply of free juke/footwork music. Whatever works best for you, let me know. I simply need anyone's help, and as people who are enthusiastic about this movement, such as myself, I would love anyone's assistance in creating this channel for the world to be connected.

Thanks so much everyone, and hope to hear from you soon.

hey, do the dances you guys put on mainly involve just the battle/footwork element? Or is there actually a rave thing going down, when everyone finishes battling and just straight up dances altogether?

just wondering how it works in a club setting... do you get punters or is it more of a closed circle of people?

@ nnazem

can you id the track that samples nina simone's sinnerman?
I heard it on a Rashad & Spinn mix I downloaded from here

http://btbrecordingz.mypodcast.com/

I messaged Rashad about it on myspace but he didn't get back to me.

I'd like 320s of the new Rashad ep as well, how can I get them?

Thanks

To Answer A Few Questions

I'm glad that there's some response, haha.

The footworking really depends on what type of party you go to. The ones me, Spinn, and Rashad run are just 100% footworking events, simply because these people don't want to listen to anything else, and came out to footwork and battle.

Now there are parties we throw in which we'll go from hip hop, to house, to juke tracks, and you'll see people footworking to certain tracks.

Now if you asked how many people know how to footwork in the city, I'd have to say it's close to the 50,000 - 75,000 range. The majority of grade school kids on the south and west side of Chicago know the music, and try to emulate the footworking they see their older brothers or sisters doing.

TO 4NR, the Nina Simone Track is literally DJ Spinn - Sinnerman.
We had a freeze on selling anything simply because we expected our website to be up and running, and our beatport, itunes, and vinyl connection to be fully functional right now. However, as you can tell by the state of our website, it has not occurred yet. However, we do have an upcoming album up on Beatport, and Vinyl, 4 The Ghetto, that shall be released soon, despite the website slowdown.

If you just message me your real name, I'll just cross check old sales records, and hook you up with the new MP3's with 320 kbps quality.

And Rashad probably won't ever get back to you, I can't even call him on a regular day and get him to pick up the phone, haha.

Sorry that this is a mix between business and culture, but our mission right now is to try and solve all the questions you guys have right now through a business setting, and for stupid reasons, we haven't been able to do it!
