it's said that a good prosecutor often only asks questions for which they already have the answer. they want to see if you give them the truthful answer or lie.

I think Vance is fairly confident about what is in the tax returns and I think that Trump's desperation to hide them is probably only making him more certain.

how sweet would it be if Michael Cohen was the one who brought it all down

The filings in State Supreme Court in Manhattan come as President Trump faces legal actions on several fronts. The Manhattan district attorney’s office has suggested in court filings that it is investigating possible bank and insurance fraud by the president and the Trump Organization.

The attorney general, Letitia James, started the civil inquiry in March 2019 after President Trump’s former personal lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, told Congress that the president had inflated his assets in financial statements to banks when he was seeking loans and had understated them to reduce his real estate taxes.

Actually I'm getting mixed up, it's the Letitia James case that doesn't say what it's about, not the Vance one. But I guess she's made that clear now.

It feels like things are closing in on them from all sides right now. It's kinda like a film or a series (Billions maybe) - it's a race against time, can the DA or one of the other good guys bring down the Trump crime family before he is able to cheat in the election and make himself invulnerable by firing everyone and changing the law so he becomes president in perpetuity?
Kinda like Narcos when it kept looking as though Escobar was toast but he'd always wriggle out of it. Though obviously Escobar was much less evil and had far more personal charm so a lot of viewers probably sneakily enjoyed his victories.

Also with Escobar we knew the ending and that he would get his... here it's all hanging in the balance, it's possible that Trump could get away with it and die content, or there could be the super happy ending in which he gets bummed to death in jail. It's all to play for.

Anyway... seems news news is coming out that Eric Trump pled the fifth to avoid being interviewed in relation to this. Now I thought that was every US citizen's right but people seem to be suggesting it's a right usually grabbed by the guilty. Leo or Padraig or Linebaugh wanna educate me?

Eric Trump Takes The Fifth As New York AG Tightens Criminal Noose
Eric Trump, the president’s son, is taking the Fifth Amendment and refusing to be interviewed by the New York State Attorney General.
The filing said that Eric Trump had been scheduled to be interviewed in the investigation in late July, but abruptly canceled that interview. The filing says that Eric Trump is now refusing to be interviewed, with Eric Trump’s lawyers saying “we cannot allow the requested interview to go forward … pursuant to those rights afforded to every individual under the Constitution.”

pleading the fifth is done for a few reasons. you feel you have a strong case and don't need to risk saying something that could jeopardize it. or you want to make the prosecutor prove their case on their own. or you don't want to incriminate yourself. or you're guilt as hell and don't want to admit it on the witness stand, or be charged with perjury for lying on the stand.

it leads some people to be suspicious and see it as admission of guilt, but it's not that cut and dry.

But this is why this Letitia James is subpoena-ing him, cos this happened earlier.
The amount of legal issues facing these guys right now is insane. It's impossible to keep track.

sadly, pretty much everything I know about it is from watching old "law & order" reruns, which means not much.

I'd assume they did their research....
Funny when Trump tweeted "Law and Order" during the riots and all the replies were stuff like "Grey's Anatomy".

I think that this was more to do with her daughter (and husband in fact) than just another rat leaving a sinking ship.
