This one's good, good analysis and funny story about MJ. Jafa says jacko was a shape shifter, realised that he was threatening as a black male so presented himself ad arrested child. Also says he is berry gordys frankenstein monster.
Gates, who I've not heard of, talks about how MJ was willing to "monsterise" himself, like Miles, was willing to go through the contortion of self required by genuine creativity.
Later on he says that he has often thought that African people are not black, in the sense that something happened in the middle passage to transform them to something else. Says he gets in trouble for saying it, but it's basically lukes argument about how poor African music is as compared to black music.
Then gates says how when he first met jafa, they ended up hanging out together for a few days, and jafa just came with him to all his meetings, and at one point, they were with the mayor of Chicago or whatever, and someone asked who jafa was and gates, not missing a beat, said "he's my spiritual adviser".
