i'm joking
Nope, but i'd love to hear it. I don't have nearly enough minimal stuff to do a 'proper' mix of it, either. Someone get busy and knock one up, eh?

Not really 'proper' as its only 20 minutes but here is a mix recorded fairly quickly this evening mixing house and dubstep:

http://download.yousendit.com/6112C42475047137

Tracklisting:

1. Scuba - 'Sleepa'
2. Reynold - 'Yoko'
3. Skream - 'I'
4. Duplex - 'Autosug' (Anthony "Shake" Shakir remix)
5. DMZ - 'Anti War Dub'
6. Def Inc. - 'Waking The Dread' (Switch remix)
7. Mr Oiso - 'Square Surf'

I've got lots of minimal stuff but most of it is either too slow or doesn't sound quite right when mixed with dubstep. If producers from both scenes are going to mix each others stuff it could lead to maybe some original records coming out from them that will fit in both genres. That would be well good.

Yer come on Blackdown I know you like to play yr cards close to yr chest but this is ridiculous! I still find it odd that Minimal people didn't go crazy for Qawalli, surely the most measured and delicate of dubstep anthems (and yes, non "dropping", although there is bass weight its more like a single chord pulse, hidden under the busy drums-- I've tried working out the style of bass he uses in order to rip it off, but its actually quite tricky to make out, just a gentle rippling pulse of sub action)

I'm sure someone has mentioned Villalobos as a likely/actual remixer in print somewhere...

But we'll see.

I think Qwalli was much to sedate and stately for the likes of Magda, Villalobos etc etc, except for perhaps really early in their sets. When I've been to minimal parties (Kompakt and some others) its actually quite banging stuff, that whole Boka Shade vibe really.

you know that! cant wait for this! it will be very very interesting to see what comes of it :) hope its better than zinc's recent attempts at dubstep remixing

i was quite disappointed by the ellen alien and apparat dubstep-esque tune, i was expecting a spectacular result, but it really lacks any spark, in complete contrast to almost all of the rest of the album!

what i'd be very interested to hear is the minimal aesthetic applied to a non-4x4 structure... clipped, micro-sampled drums and lush high-end synths but in a broken and swung framework. basically the sound of guido schneider, or trentemoller's early poker flat peak.

to be fair pinch already comes quite close to this at his best (i am similarly suprised that qawwali wasnt massive with such heads, if indeed it wasnt)

but also i think that the minds of the best minimal producers could be the source of some very interesting mutations in terms of less surface-level aspects of the sound... we can but hope

I just dont know
some of the most danceable, fat, and party-starting tunes ive bought this last year would fall under the banner of minimal... it is definately, definately not just head music, its a very broad genre (if that it really is). in terms of groove the new wave of 'minimal' has a lot more energy (to my ears) than a lot of other forms of techno and house, or in fact music full stop

it also changes character quite a lot on a big system

I haven't checked this thread in a while, but I hope you guys are all rating Emalkay. Totally under-rated, IMO. He makes tracks that are stylistically varied, and are both total club bangers, and sonically interesting.

I can't end my day satisfied unless I listen to Bats In The Belfry at least once.

Cool, cheers!! That switch remix is excellent...

Interesting you talk about Qwaali not dropping - i'm sure that was because it was made at the beginning of his career. Still Pinch does have this kind of pointialist approach to his drum that sounds very minimal.
Just curious about this explanation for the lack of a drop in Qawwali, that it came at the beginning of his career. What about Pinch and Dutty's "War Dub" / "Alien Tongue" (Tectonic 01), which came out on vinyl at least a year ago (i have no idea how long it circulated before that on dubplate, if at all)? Both sides are quite conventionally structured, both have two drops each, and the second drop on War Dub is just utterly filthy. I don't really remember whether this plate got much attention from the scene when it was released. Was curious now that Qawwali has been so well received.
