Did anyone watch the second series of White Lotus? Arguably it sort of meandered along with nothing happening and then packed it all into the final episode, but I really enjoyed it despite or because of that. It had a kind of dark undercurrent that was always hinted at and - without spoiling it too much cos I think it's fairly obvious - that is made manifest but just a little bit nastier than I thought. I enjoyed all the horrible characters and their awful interactions in every episode. Recommended.
Started watching it last night. I had no idea second series existed until yesterday. I've spent a couple of holidays in Taormina, though not at that hotel, next one along. Interested to see how the tensions and intertwinings build and resolve.

Twenty-five years ago, at precisely 6.51pm on 16 December 1997, hundreds of children across Japan experienced seizures. In total, 685 – 310 boys and 375 girls – were taken by ambulance to hospital. Within two days, 12,000 children had reported symptoms of illness. The common factor in this sudden mass outbreak was an unlikely culprit: an episode of the Pokémon cartoon series.

The instalment in question, Dennō Senshi Porygon (Electric Soldier Porygon), was the 38th in the Pokémon anime’s first season – and initially, at least, it sparked a medical mystery. Twenty minutes into the cartoon, an explosion took place, illustrated by an animation technique known as paka paka, which broadcast alternating red and blue flashing lights at a rate of 12Hz for six seconds. Instantly, hundreds of children experienced photosensitive epileptic seizures – accounting for some, but far from all, of the hospitalisations.

seems like a great time for tv shows about horrible people (or maybe thats always been the case)

I remember Jacqueline Susan who wrote Valley of the Dolls etc said thet she liked to write about rich people - but she made them suffer so as not to make her base jealous. White Lotus feels a bit the same to me and it's almost certainly a philosophy which has had many adherents over the years.

Copenhagen Cowboy's agonisingly slow.

I didn't hate it. It looked great and there were some cool ideas and moments, but Refn's taken his style to such an extreme at this point that it can be difficult to sit through.

Rewatched Drive once I'd finished it and the complaints about the dialogue and pacing seem quaint by comparison.

Just finished The Bear which I really enjoyed. Strong performances from the small cast. Smart script and some invention in how the story is told.

Just finished "The Responder", really good. Set in Liverpool, should have enabled the closed caption to understand that f'ing accent.

We watched the first episode or maybe even two of this and I was enjoying it a lot - Liza wasn't so keen though. It WAS very macho and raw I suppose but in a way that's a front it puts up in the same way as the characters.

There was a moment in the first one where they went to buy stuff to fix the wall and he got a phone call from his daughter and you saw his tender side and then he admitted he'd fucked up and said "I think I bought the wrong stuff for the wall too" and he looked so defeated and worn down and it was quite powerful to see his tough guy image stripped away so easily.

Going in with Copenhagen Cowboy... hopes are not that high based on the synopsis and what others have said, however I'm hoping that even if the plot bores me there will be enough of Refn's standard imagery, sinister synths and horribly exciting violence to make it bearable.

Just on the last episode of SAS Rogue Heroes with my sister. It's alright. Posh boys do the impossible, but apparently based on reality. Will move onto Copenhagen Cowboy next but don't reckon they'll like it. Too Old To Die Young was too minimal for them and I don't smoke weed to watch it on my own anymore.

So what the fuck was that about?

Yep... well I think so, certainly Taras and I have watched six episodes over the last two nights which appear to be all that exist - and yet it suddenly stopped abruptly as the storyline started to get going. It feels as though there should be loads more but Taras had a quick search around and as far as he could tell that's it. I'm hoping he's wrong though and there is more to come, otherwise it ended with that Japanese video game designer appeaing to a lawyer and ordeing him to visit the giants - whoever the fuck they are - while our hero and her magically assembled crack team of blue tracksuit clad ninja models cowered and shielded their ears from the sonic attack of the resurrected vampire girl and the recently introduced sinister immortal hunter guy did absolutely nothing.

Currently switching between "We are who we are" and "tulsa King". About halfway through both.

Both are not quite my cup of tea and certainly not compulsively watchable, but both are OK.

Can't think what tulsa King could be compared to, it's mafia plus comedy stuff we've all seen before but wrapped up a little differently and entertaining enough. Stallone is good. I'm more sympathetic to him after reading stallone gushing about paradise alley.

The other one is by the same guy who did "call me by your name" and it's the same sort of thing really. Very slow burning though. Which is exactly what my friend said it would be. Didn't really get going till the third episode, with a great party scene. It's got good music and book references too, although makes me feel really old as well, as its a coming of age thing in the main.

Consent on channel 4 is pretty good. A lot of stuff on sexual abuse around right now, prob not all good, but this is one of the best ones. Only thing id say though is that while the class/privilege/power/wealth element def gives it another layer, it might have been more surprising if that wasnt there.
