Yeah thats sort of my point, that, as expected, his performance was based from that perspective (and yeah for him it seems pretty easy to remain based to that audience, it pretty much just requires him to not apologize or capitulate in any substantial way).

A couple of decades ago, a former boss told me about how he previously worked for the local government in Los Angeles (I don't remember exactly, but I think it may have been the Health and Human Services division), and he had been tasked with telling some immigrants to stop eating the pets that people were giving away.
Seriously, there were people that thought that they were seeing ads for free food when they saw classified ads placed in the local papers for cats and dogs or whatever kinds of pets that people were giving away. They were just thinking "What a great country!" with all these nice people giving away free food so he had to go educate them on the cultural differences.

The liberals are claiming that it just doesn't happen, showing that they know very little about the outside world.

In fact I think it was Kazuo Ishiguro who complained to western liberals any foreigner was just a liberal with a paint job. In fact immigrants are less likely to be liberal than the liberals themselves, and maybe even conservatives too. Apparently cats and dogs may also be nabbed for ritualistic slaughter but picking on harmless creatures for such purposes in the Wes...

We don't have conclusive proof that the catnapping is happening but what I take issue with is dismissing it a priori. The Democrats have really put themselves over a barrel with this because it would be easy to set up a fake catnapping event even if a real one weren't caught.

I don't think so cos the image of Trump going off on one about it at a presidential debate and saying "it must be true I saw it on telly" is gonna be nigh on impossible to shift regardless of whether some Magatwat pays a Haitian to eat their pet. At the moment they are all sharing this one video as proof which has a woman accused of trying to eat a cat - only problem is it's not in Springfield and she's not from Haiti, in fact she was born in the US.

Nothing is gonna change all that now, even if every Haitian in the country has a cat, dog or goldfish for breakfast tomorrow there is no way that people will go "oh now Trump won the debate".

Americans treat cats and dogs as sacred animals and can't imagine anyone doing otherwise. But then they do sterilise them and execute them when they become a practical problem, so maybe not that sacred after all.
