When i think of eastern eurpope i more think of the pale morose sullen kind. Men standing round a bin drinking methodically. Not sexy albanian coke dealers in speed boats.

But they - Serbs - are slavs so that's kinda as eastern-european as you can be isn't it?
I remember Igor saying that a guy was visiting him from Italy, walking round Novi Sad he said "It's just like Europe" - Igor replied "It is Europe you dickhead"

Loads of Russians in Serbia now, means they started selling vodka in bigger bottles for easier methodical drinking.

One of his mates was trying to impress some girl, he wanted to show her the best thing in Serbia... the Croatian coast.

This put the cat among the pigeons I seem to remember

Proud to be Albanian... albeit playing for Switzerland.

I can see why the Serbs got cheesed off about that, I remember one of them said "If they are so passionate about Albania they should play for Albania" and he's got a point. Seems a bit sneaky to join another to beat Serbia and then celebrate the country you've left.

Yeah I looked it up too. But Serbs and Bosnians are and Croats too.
Anyway, what about art from Eastern Europe, when I was in Serbia my friend showed me loads of films, what was interesting was that, just as in American films you know that the goodie is going to win, in a Serbian film (not A Serbian Film) you know that everyone is going to die, it's just accepted that at the end the good guys (if there are any) will snuff it. Totally different mentality.

I've been to Hungary too a couple of times, I think that has a completely different culture again due to the language being so different from that of all their neighbours. Although Budapest does look kinda like Prague etc
I had a friend doing a phd in anthropology and she was staying in a Roma village outside Debrecen, she had to move out though cos they kept nicking her stuff. Not that I blame them, when we went to the village it was the most terrible poverty I've ever seen, "houses" made of sheets of metal leaning together, kids with rotting teeth etc

I remember enjoying this film but it was so long ago I couldn't tell you anything about it now

It's called The Voyages of Sindbad

The film opens with a sequence of fleeting images - the stamens of a flower, drops of oil on water, glowing embers, a spider's web, a strand of blonde hair, a leaf frozen in the ice, rain dripping from a wooden roof, etc. - each of which will subsequently be linked to one of Szindbád's memories of his love affairs. We then see the body of the dead or dying Szindbád lying in a cart drawn by a horse through the countryside, where nobody any longer seems interested in him. A voiceover (of Szindbád) then introduces a stream of memories, often disconnected and unchronological, of the many women who have been the focus of his life.
