pure carnage in the aid and NGO world. biggest crisis i've seen. maybe the biggest ever. USAID essentially no longer exists, and all kinds of stoppages of services all over the world. organizations going bust

I'm being cynical but this is only a mirror image take of the standard one on colonialism, which ignores that a good deal of people were involved I that for what they felt were humanitarian reasons.

Strong critics of colonialism hold that any interference is colonialist, so USAID is colonialist as it interferes.

E.g. as soon as there is significant disruption anywhere Planned Parenthood uses that as an excuse to swoop down with abortion and contraception, claiming that reproductive healthcare is a priority in times of crisis. But their version of reproductive healthcare is based on particular US aims and cultural norms.

And yet Trump and co are smashing it apart cos they think it works against the US, not cos it's too imperialist.
