How to be a true progressive

@ghost is confused as to why I bother trying to help him out, so I'm going to provide even more help and tell him and others (you know who you are) how to be a true progressive.

1. Progressives progress. You don't have to wait for everyone in your fake friendship group to emotionally blackmail you into doing something new; if you want to be a true progressive then you do something new the moment you think it's a good idea yourself.

2. Make sure you understand what you're talking about. If you have a new idea, be able to define terms and explain it to people who may not have read all of Derrida.

3. Make sure your idea is generalised in practice if the theory behind it logically requires it. Yes, you will have to stick up for otherkin, transracialists, and who knows what else.

4. Phony progressives i.e. the bulk of those on here are local conservatives. They just go along with the safe thing to say within their social group. Part and parcel of this is the extremely conservative materialist naive realist metaphysics they have, so if you want to be a true progressive that's going to have to go.

progressives are counter-revolutionary as they are congenitally incapable of acknowledging cataclysmic rupture. whether they devolve back to conservatism is irrelevant, all formalisms including yours are ultimately devoid of substance. The word always comes last.

learn to think for once in your usufructuary waste of a traitorous life. You are the only sad sack of tissue who wants to be progressive on god's green bumbaclaat earth.

imagine at your funeral they say. so biscuits gnashed his teath, strained his muscles, ruined his blood pressure finding ways to progress all his life, but never actually progressed. that's your legacy. even Roger Waters would be ashamed of you!

In the spirit of defining a new progressivism I will say that I quite like @other_life 's transhuman ontology of transgenderism. It's the most interesting and coherent conceptualization I think. Light irreverent deadly serious play with signification and identity.

Lot of people seem to be asking this question recently, e.g.

"The liberals have become more authoritarian. They’ve become more repressive of dissent."

I think a proper progressivism would re-embrace dissensus, and feel the desire to argue strongly for their positions. Rather than treat the request for argument as a form of oppression or violence

David Baddiel and Baroness Sayeeda Warsi are not as strong as I am. Their podcast is called A Muslim & A Jew Go There, and it’s not very good. A typical exchange has Warsi saying ‘I see you, I hear you, I feel your pain,’ to which Baddiel replies: ‘Yes, that’s fantastic.’

They're only against rational argument because they would lose the trending arguments BUT they only lose because they accept the unspoken assumptions of the opposition, in that they share those assumptions...so the progress required is asking themselves in what kind of world/universe the phenomena make sense and then undercutting the opposition BUT they should not expect their other beliefs/goals to be unaffected by such a breakthrough.

You want Woke 2? Here's Woke 2.

1. The goal of Woke 2 is to establish social equality, achieve material and spiritual progress, and construct a vibrant civic life for the people.
2. Defund the fire department
3. Abolish needle exchanges, and encourage smoking fentanyl instead (it’s much safer)
4. Art museum board members should prostrate themselves and apologize for their collections weekly; the rest of us are allowed to not think about it.
5. Implement Police 2. every year the citizens vote on how to divide the policing budget between Police 1 and 2 depending on who's been doing their job and not violating people's rights.
6. We need a Serrano-style dissolution of binaries more than a Woke 1-style intensification of them.
7. Access to methadone should be massively expanded.
8. Access to ozempic should be massively expanded.
9. Access to tylenol should be massively curtailed.
10. People should be able to do what they want to their bodies, including injecting hormones that change their gender. Even if they don’t feel like they’ve always been, epiphenomenally, of a different gender. Even like, just because.
11. Comic book people and adults who read young adult literature have shown over the last decade that they are not capable of being responsible members of a coalition. They have baby-brain; they are not welcome in Woke 2.
12. The greatest public health intervention possible is static car tire dust collectors.
13. If the left is said to have any core beliefs, a good candidate is that property is something which should be democratically contestable. The act of contesting some of the more spurious modes of property is a way towards both material and spiritual progress. It is a fact rarely acknowledged but factually true that a world where fossil fuels remain in the ground is in fact *richer*, because the negative externalities are greater than the value provided to those who burn it. The left should be willing to say: “If you want a world that is wealthy, you will destroy the fossil fuel infrastructure.”
14. In this reading, the left is a kind of vigilante short-fund destroying the net-welfare-negative business models around coal plants, Turbotax, land title insurers, and so forth, and redistributing the surplus to the people of the world.
15. Woke 2 acknowledges that Uber did the world a favor by destroying the exploitative taxi medallion monopoly, in which absentee medallionlords extracted rent from immigrant taxi drivers forced to do 17 hour shifts, often taking on themselves the risk of a bad day with the possibility of ending up net-negative at the end of the shift. While Uber is also exploitative, their cut is smaller, the market is bigger, and at least some share of the proceeds go towards improving the efficiency of the system.
16. Free public transit, but only for the rich
17. We need direct auto sales, specifically to destroy the "dealership owner class," the furthest right social block in the country
18. Mandatory labelling for nepo babies. This includes disclosure requirements for legacy admissions
19. Elementary schools should have classes on comparative phonology, so people can pronounce names and loanwords from other cultures
20. Abolish single family zoning, but also abolish commercial zoning. Home businesses and living in an office are both radical praxis.
21. We need new universities. One of them should have a mandate to accept all valedictorians, from everywhere.
22. Legalize korean sunscreen
23. There was a deviant Woke 1 tendency to be suspicious of interracial marriage. We should flip this and be suspicious of people married to people of the same race.
24. National payment processing network run by USPS
25. Voting age to 16 but only for local elections
26. A CDL should be required to drive a large pickup truck or SUV
27. Individuals liable for environmental crimes can be sentenced to exposure to the materials they polluted with
28. Having at any point in the past made a land acknowledgement is retroactively considered to have deeded the land to local native groups
29. We need public access to surveillance cameras
30. There must be a defense of abortion rights that is ready for artificial wombs—IE, it must not rest on “viability of the fetus.”
31. Woke 2 acknowledges that some of the worst parts of Woke 1 were the ways that it was weaponized—sometimes in the defense of worthwhile ends, sometimes not. However, if you don’t live in a vegan food coop or work for a nonprofit, Woke 1 is over. It is no longer possible to be cancelled without having committed at least two felonies. If you still feel victimized by Woke 1 we recommend, unfortunately, that you go to therapy about it.
32. In other words—Woke 1 is our generation’s Vietnam, in that some of the population was traumatized by it and will spend the rest of their lives acting like they’re still there.
33. Public access tv funding quadrupled, dedicated mostly to "day in the life" tiktoks of midlevel bureaucrats
34. Tax benefits of marriage should decrease with age gap
35. “Unconscious bias” is out, promoting intergroup contact is in
36. We’re performatively undoing the wine/whine merger. We’re now referring to “hwhite people”
37. Collecting statistics in order to do diversity and inclusion in a statistically defensible way should generally fall under safe harbor provisions and not increase liability
38. High quality, rapid-turnover air filtration in schools and cafeterias will improve educational outcomes and prevent conflict over the smell of food
39. Don’t get it twisted: the goal of Woke 2 is to establish social equality, achieve material and spiritual progress, and construct a vibrant civic life for the people.

you forgot

40) ban all pork production
41) make psytrance illegal
42) make jump up dnb illegal
43) make the propagation of theistic propaganda a criminal offence (religious propaganda for reasons of cultural superiority is fine...)
44) abolish all theological faculties.

hmm. those don't sound very woke 2. i think they should probably ban feeding pork to pigs involved in pork production though, I feel that'd be a good idea. also i think churches are very nice looking, so we should keep those.

Behold this festering heap of codswallop, masquerading as profound thought! This utterly incoherent twaddle is a masterclass in spouting drivel whilst pretending to possess a shred of insight. Let’s dissect it with the surgical disdain it so richly deserves.
It begins with the tiresome bleat that “they” (some nebulous, undefined lot) shun rational argument because they’d be trounced. What a staggering insight, Professor Obvious! As if any soul willingly trots into a debate thinking, “I fancy a thorough drubbing today.” Then it plunges into a vortex of circular claptrap: they lose because they buy into the opposition’s unspoken assumptions. Truly groundbreaking! It’s akin to declaring a cricketer loses because he agrees to play on a pitch. Well, naturally!
But hold your tea—it gets more ludicrous. The “progress required” is some navel-gazing cod-philosophy where “they” must muse over “in what kind of world/universe the phenomena make sense.” This is the sort of pompous tripe you’d overhear from a tweed-clad bore at an Oxbridge wine and cheese, desperate to sound clever. It’s not a strategy; it’s a horoscope scribbled on a napkin. And “undercutting the opposition”? What, pray tell, is that? A cunning rhetorical flick of the wrist? This isn’t a Jane Austen novel; it’s an argument, not a Regency intrigue.
The crowning turd in this cesspit: don’t expect your “other beliefs/goals” to emerge unscathed from this grand epiphany. Oh, how frightfully portentous! So, you’re to dismantle your entire worldview to win a spat, only to find your life’s foundations crumbling like a soggy biscuit. Cheers for the warning, O Sage of Semantic Sludge.
This bilge isn’t merely incoherent; it’s a spineless dodge into ambiguity, a gutless refusal to articulate anything resembling a point. It’s the intellectual equivalent of flinging confetti and calling it a manifesto. The author ought to be condemned to an eternity of parsing their own sentences until they weep for clarity. . This tosh deserves no quarter.
