@mvuent listen to this song and say something about it. Version doesn't like it but that's because he ate too much glue in childhood
I think a lot of glokks stuff was recorded in jail? But it might have been done straight into the i phone. I know lazer dim 500 records straight into the apple headphones microphone. I've been listening to a lot of mixtape rap lately and that's par for the course. Lots of really shoddy sounding mixes, wildly varying volume levels, mono feel. Pretty sure it's all being done via the voice memo app with almost zero traditional recording equipment. I phone rapweird how it's almost in mono. the second verse especially. adlibs sound better when they're floating around in the peripheries of stereo space (like, for a random example, here) rather than barely audible, squeezed in dead center with the verse. other than that i like it, especially the first verse.
with digital age “cgi” era music, even rap, i don’t want rawness, i want the sounds to be hd objects bouncing around and colliding against each other.
Why not both?
I like the rawness, too.
"That which is not slightly distorted lacks sensible appeal: from which it follows that irregularity - that is to say, the unexpected, surprise and astonishment, are an essential part and characteristic of beauty"
yeah no i know i'm committing sacrilege around here by saying rawness doesn't work that well for me in certain music. but in this case i'm not even talking about distortion (it's used well in the track in question) i'm talking about stereo space, about different elements playing off each other. you can record vocals on a shitty mic in jail and still get a more spacious effect with a bit of production effort, e.g.I think a lot of glokks stuff was recorded in jail? I like it tbh. The new low fi. Makes things feel collage esque in a way that was charming about the mix tape rap that preceded and floated around past eras of internet mix tape rap. Re: the headphones microphone I particularly like how it squashes and compresses vocals when they're really exerting
the only rap-related thing i'm scared of is nba youngboy's sonMaybe it's because it sounds very aggressive and is scaring you
