Word?

Come on Dart - no one is listening to anything when they are old enough to still be shitting their pants.

In 1978, I was able to read AND recognize every song that came on the radio. Plus I sneaking off into my mother's room and listening to her 8 tracks so I beg to differ. I was an advanced kid, I was the only kid in Kindergarten who could read....My brother was 6 years older than me and my sister was 8 years older than me and they were both in advanced classes. I spent all my time with them watching Nova, In Search Of.. and Battlestar Galactica.

I was doomed from the beginning. Check my blog out for proof...It's in my sig. Start at the beginning. One.

interview of reynolds (dont even need to say his first name anymore really do i?) by k punk, talking about his new book and hip hop. cant say i really disagree with any of this -
Fact: On hip-hop: when you were writing about Mantronix (pictured, right), Public Enemy and the Skinny Boys in the mid-'80s, it made sense to fit hip-hop into an avant garde aesthetic. Now if there is a mainstream, it would be hip-hop. What's your take on this?

SR: That was one of the best things you wrote on your blog, I thought: that hip-hop was now the problem. It seems exhausted yet incapable of either renewing itself or being dislodged. It’s like rock just before punk, this thing that started as a movement of emancipation and has become an entertainment industry. But hip-hop hasn’t been able to generate its own punk, for some reason. Hi-hop now makes me think of this line Greil Marcus came up with in a great piece he wrote on the Death of Rock, circa Nirvana. He wrote something like, “rock is dead but the money’s too good to quit” and then nuanced the comment to something like, “maybe the cause of the anguish isn’t that rock is dead but that it refuses to die”. The rap industry is so massive, there’s so many economic interests tied up, it’s just going to perpetuate itself. As I said earlier, there will be artists within that who offer a flicker of originality or spark of vision, just as there will now and then be a conventional rock band that has something going for it. But the vast bulk of it is cultural living death. The fact that we recently heard elder spokesman types in rap like Jay-Z saying “rap’s corny now” or Timbaland saying, “hip hop is boring, my own stuff bores me”, that seems awfully telling. Or Nas with his 'Hip Hop Is Dead' album…

I find artists are generally the last people you should be listening to when it comes to commentary on the genre of music they make.

<b>"We're delighted see that this thread has proved so popular with Dissensus users and that so much has been contributed to it. However, this thread (and the other "Gossip and Lies" threads) are getting so long that they are pretty unmanageable, and they're beginning to suck a bit of the life out of the forum. Virtually all of the posts here would work better and get more attention if they were in proper, smaller threads. So we're going to close this thread and all the other "Gossip and Lies" threads (other than the cricket one, which is so different from all the others that it probably still has a place). We know some of you have really enjoyed this thread so we're giving you a week (seven days from now) to make your farewell posts, then we're going to close it. After that, we'd love it if you could contribute this energy to the broader forum."</b>

All about pride and egos
It's still running (although my laptop has died and someone has apparently hacked my MySpace page)..It may take a while before everything is resolved with it...This thread is fuckin' DEAD BTW. I'm almost willing to let it let die here in Dissensusland. One.

That's prophecy right there.

One week huh? Oh man. It was bound to happen anyways. One.

PD, that's a good list, obviously. But the most recent LP in your top 25 is (without checking rel dates) either Big Pun or The Roots, both almost 10 years old, while your 2nd list has only Cold Vein from this century.

Now you see why this thread is dying?
