Oi! I said that pages ago! ;)

ha! sorry, thought it was weird i couldn't find it on the thread...

Anyway, with the coming shift in consciousness plagiarism will cease to matter, certinaly compared with the giant lizards that will be roaming the streets of every town on this earth.

I'm just glad stelfox isn't around to see this thread. His wrath would be tenfold worse than the lizards.

Sorry to interrupt all the lizard-related fun, but:
^^ Mr Tea and Eden, you were both, of course, right and sensible in your suggestions as to why the Babylon concept evolved as it did. I was being arrogant and oversimplistic in my presentation of it. I would still, though, question how useful it is to cling on to the concept now. It has the weight of tradition behind it, obviously, but what else?
I really don't want to labour this topic any more than I have to. My basic point is that, not being a Rasta and having some reasonably serious misgivings about elements of Rasta belief leads me, I feel that as much as I love roots and dub reggae, there will always be some inner core to their meaning which eludes me, which I can't have access to. My misgivings about Rastfarianism also make a little about recommending a cultural manifestation of it such as reggae as an unequivecal force for political good in the world (not, of course, by any means the only test of it's value), but I wouldn't want to overemphasise this point.

What are your thoughts on human sacrifice?
i don't have a problem with it, like i dont have a problem with cannibalism either. if it came to a choice of eat someone or die then i'm eating the tastiest looking fucker around. tough times call for tough measures but theres no excuse for looking like shit.
The bigger the cycle that was ending, the more serious the problem and the more sacrifices were needed.
its no different than sacrificing US troops in afghanistan to secure a better world. and dont tell me that conflict on both sides isnt about appeasing their gods either. the rationale is and this applies to muslim terrorists especially, if you're not prepared to martyr yourself for the greater glory then fuckit i'm gonna martyr you for it instead. the rest is just luck of the draw...ie conscription and being in the wrong place at the right time.
98% of the human population are jewish now?!

muslims, christians and jews share the same prophets and god stemming from the old testament.

coalescing in a virtual reality of our own making.
Yes this has never happened before and especially not in the sixties.

did they have the internet in the sixties ?

in relation to the religion/reggae relationship, surely there has been an ebb and flow in popularity, such that religious-themed records have dominated at some times in Jamaica, and been less popular at others?

For all that many people do deeply believe, there has to be just as much cynicism as with anything else in making hay while the sun shines in the recording industry, hence for example the proliferation of highly religious roots records in the mid-70s (ok, Selassie died in 75?, too, and the 70s were a highly political decade in jamaican history, as i understand..well, all decades must be to an extent), and the relative absence of them at other points? There are so many other subjects explored in Jamaican music.

Music move in trends, after all, and politics/religion are just as much part of those trends as anything else. It's not political apathy that means political rap records were ten a penny in the late 80s/early 90s, but certainly are not so nowadays.

Not a religious record, but can I recommend Ethiopians - Life is a Funny Thing, produced by Scratch. It's a heartbreaking record.

ha ha. i've got nothing to say, other than that i do still look in here every now and again. fact is that i really don't care about reggae any more, though. haven't listened to any of it for almost a year and have no plans on doing so again. that's not a judgement of quality or anything just total personal lack of interest and inclination. only found this because i was searching for something else. even if that wasn't the case, i still wouldn't talk about it or write about it. decided to leave that to other people once and for all last november. besides, other types of music have been better this year than they have for a long time
