Gunplay needs more original beats all the time. The Freestyles are wearing thin for me.

Fuck a 2013 thread... Flocka's new tape is sounding really solid. His own unique quality is a bit gone, but it's a lot more lively than SMOSM4; the production's a bit more fascinating (though I can't say it's any less draining over a long ordeal). Also, Young Thug's verse on "Fell"...

he needs a certain kind of beat too. he cant do everything but even so he is the only genuine poet operating in rap today

The man's been writing since 1998 or so for people beyond himself, so it goes to figure...

For example, one of the constant puns in rap is that Biggie would say very x-rated stuff, which coming out of his mouth, was obviously pause-worthy, but for him to be such a convincing woman (pause) is an obvious extension of the brilliance of his creativity, and likewise for all of his pupils whom he made do that for Kim's debut (Cam, Mase and Jay). Now, if you listen back to some of those old Trina records... It's Logan's flow! And he probably really got his start doing Trina ghostwriting, so by that right, he got a very early start in learning how to write raps from a perspective so divorced from himself... Also, it led to me hyper-analyzing every Rick Ross record to see if it wasn't Logan (I mean, "Hustlin" sounds like it could be SUCH a Gunplay record in retrospect).

i like gunplay even over criminology and deep cover for the umpteenth time. im actually almost worried now to hear what his album would be like as i dont want him to end up another fantastic rapper ruined by an album with subpar production. im happy for it to be a jackin for beats bonanza. but he is the best rapper out today.

I have mental movies formed of Gunplay in the booth for all the good Rick Ross songs, and just imagine all 90 lbs of him, screaming "I FEED 'EM STEROIDS TO STRENGTHEN ALL OF MY CHIIIKEEEENS..."

since youve mentioned it ive been getting the same thing, just the cadences of a lot of those verses are very gunplay

this is the best one off the new one

I actually hate that one TBH! Yo Gotti saying "My Definition Of A Plug Is A Mexican" is the WORST rap lyric ever maybe? Also I feel like the beat is a bit too 'ravey', and Gunplay's performance doesn't grab me... I'm getting the feeling that he's starting to get very stuck in his ways, and formulaic. Then again, so's everyone in his field, so I can't blame him specifically.

i like the ravey beat. yo gotti doesnt bother me becasue if someone else is on a gunplay track i skip them and compensate for it by listening to the gunplay bit twice. its a weak tape though. the beats dont suit him.

it may be that the energy levels in his performances have dropped to. but hes hardly irredeemable. just needs a few custom made beats and a proper project.

lol what u got against it

apart from d slight racist overtones

That's it really! I'm actually growing into a Yo Gotti apologist over the years (I mean, he's shown great rapping ability this last year, and also his service/role playing ability is undervalued), but that one was such a ".... UUUUUUUUUUGH."

bandz ahoy

This is a good Gunplay verse: ''my lawyer's a beast, he feedin' on my offences''. Agreed that he needs to do an album of original stuff rather than freestyles.

The Vado tape is really solid actually, I underrated it on first listen. This one with JR Writer is good too. I can see why Dipset fans don't like Vado cos he hasn't got that big character of Cam/Jimmy etc. but he's a good rapper and the production on 'Slime Flu 3' is pretty much all good.

I'm curious to know Luka's thoughts on this.

Did French used to be a skaghead, then? Maybe that's where his drooling comatose delivery originated from?

He does a hook on the Pusha tape which is one of the most inane discordant hooks you will ever hear in your life. It's not good, like the inane, discordant hook to ''Stay Schemin''.
