i'm playing assassin's creed odyssey right now and it's almost as good as this. the missions are whatever but it's basically made ancient greece from a concept into a real place in my mind. it got me to start the odyssey (as in homer) again bc now i have a much better feel for the geography and what it looks like when they're in someone's house feasting and whatnot.
bummer that the AC games are generally the only ones with the budget to convincingly recreate a historical period that bother to do it bc it's a really magical experience that no other medium does in the same way. gets you to think about what it's like to bodily inhabit the space of ancient greece or victorian london or w/e instead of treating it as a backdrop.
