My actual position is more centrist dad here tbh but as a rhetorical position I'm anti disco. Funny how people characterise anti disco movement as a totally white phenomenon and forget how militant the anti disco sentiment was amongst black musicians of the time, George Clinton most prominently

Weird how George Clinton had virtually no influence for UK techno heads whereas hiphop electro and, er, disco did. in that sense in a greater continuity with chicago and NY. That's why it isn't fair to class a lot of uk techno people as detroit purists, i think. Unless they willingly bring it on themselves.

ive never heard any uk producer sight parliament or funkadelic as a major influence. and if you look at playlists from that early 80s era it's all hashim, weststreet mob etc.

anyone who isn't kirk degiorgio really, black dog et al were all hugely influenced by NY electro. I still have that invisible jukebox where KDG calls electro a bit naff, lmao, makes me think he was trying to deliberately piss some people off, but being from Ipswitch it went down like a baloon, leave the cussing to landan town Kirk!
kirk is a sweet guy really. and a fount of knowledge. he has his thing. live and let live is my feeling on this issue.
