let's analyse this in a profound and exhaustive way.

example-
How French “Intellectuals” Ruined the West: Postmodernism & Its Impact
Postmodernism presents a threat not only to liberal democracy but to modernity itself.

if it wasn't clear i'm not suggesting postmodernism is an existential threat necessarily, (although maybe we will decide that it is in the course of the conversation) just that identifying it as such has become increasingly central to right-wing rhetoric and understanding-explanation of the world.

hence brave and principled straplines like pursuing the light of objective truth in subjective darkness. 🧝‍♀️

in the most basic terms the right are saying let's go back to the days of Daddy Knows Best. Which seems unrealistic after what daddy did last time.
I think that's extremely simplistic. The academic left promoted this culture for a long time but it's the right that's made it its own, and successfully weaponized it. Look at Trump. He's the ultimate fruit of all this. "Alternative facts".

I think it's totally misguided to frame this as a "left vs right" issue. It cuts to a difference in worldview that's far more profound than that. And you'll find people who identify as conservatives, socialists, liberals or whatever on both sides of it.

In a sense, this is true, and yet somehow the postmodern seems to partially be the stomping ground of the alt-right, no? Goes to show @Mr. Tea 's point, that left and right may not map onto the useful paradigms/diagrams of today.

Perhaps one reason being the need to disassociate with much of the left today. But its very unclear as to how alignments/alliances transform and develop.

Well then yeah I think the postmodern is a sort of existential threat, a sort of free falling, now that we have realized that the ground is a sort of hologram that works when you don't audit it too much.

And its tough to reconstitute that ground, after the fact. Sort of makes people desperate for any kind of meaning, and makes them damn near feral in their tenacity, defending that new source of meaning. At least, thats one take.

But then again, still much of this is situating itself within larger movements, meta-narratives, whatnot. But I think its possible to avoid a malignant eurocentrism without ignoring or disavowing history.

Its like the integrity of reality is compromised, and if it breaks, you are alone, inert, decaying. That D&G bit about carrying around a piece of ground, forget who mentioned it and where.

Living according to a set of doctrines/theses/positions means that the weak spots need to be treated gingerly, and any traffic in such spots need to be forbidden, taboos established, practices that threaten to jeopardize the integrity of reality. But you said yourself: breaking taboos unleashes energy.

So there will perpetually be components of the system that actively work to destabilize the system's predominant regime, a sort of metastability function. Where must the system be aiming, if it can afford to establish a popular direction and also a variety of dissident directions. Do the latter temper the former? Or is the popular not the expression of this sort of progress?

But will there always be a next value structure that demarcates its own territory, establishes its own taboos? Being convinced that all convictions are non-starters is, itself, a conviction. A sort of nihilism, which is perhaps the primary attractor/vortex at play within postmodernism.
