The 70s vs Pharrell / Robin Thicke

it's not a sample though is it - this is totally different to sampling in hip hop or electronic music. it's not about whether or not people should be allowed to take from the past, that's whatever, it's about a really safe and backwards looking approach to "creativity" where you constantly...

2 of my faves this year - P Square & Don Jazzy - Collabo Wizkid - Ojuelegba (huge) UK wise Fuse ODG obviously album and stage show this year have been sick, as was him parring band aid lol, plus that "Marry Juana" tune was wicked from Naira Marley and Max Twigz. That actually made it into a...

    Best of 2014

this is probably my favourite music review of 2014. ur totally right on the US vs deep tech solution thing too... in other news I actually had the pleasure of DJing for clean bandit between sets at their first gig back in 2007 / 2008 whilst completely off my nut. definitely played no qualms and...

    RAP 2014

coco is great, i love it. this one probably needs to get a mention too as it's on a similar tip. reminds me of ODB's shimmy shimmy or something - stripped back piano, totally unhinged vocals. the video's great too. inspiration for countless hilarious vines, and just a really good value track in...

Genuinely choked up about this one. Incredible mix just went up on Soundcloud from Traxman in tribute. So so sad, and way before his time. We'll always have the music. The best of the best. https://soundcloud.com/traxman-2/tha-best-to-do-it

also, on a sort of "outsiders" to the scene kind of theme andrew juke's been putting out some real heat recently. all of this is great, but "lighttrack" is definitely the highlight for me. https://soundcloud.com/hood-records/andrew-juke-clinton-st-tracks

100% agree. think it's cos he's a bit older ennit. he does it a lot rawer too, just like all of his tunes. could be soul, could be black sabbath, could be kraftwerk, could be a tv theme. everything gets put in the blender and comes out raw as hell the way he samples it. in terms of other stuff...

don't think i've ever heard a chainsaw sound i didn't like mate tbh ;) too many soul samples banging about in footwork tunes these days imo. nothing wrong with that, but you can definitely get too much of a good thing.

yea, that's why it's sick. hard as nails + lo-fi footwork - sounds like a classic hardcore formula to me! like "the power" by young smoke, or dj roc playing around with dubstep sounds. definitely a really good thing for ppl to do. https://soundcloud.com/djroc-1/warp-time
