SL-1200s are great, no doubt about it. Of course, you could buy three complete sets of these for the price of two SL-1200s. The T.60 is a solid entry-level direct-drive deck. Of particular note is the pitch control; it's the most reliable I've come across outside of the Technics line...

Psycho Biscuits - A Subconcious Selection

There's a new mix in the Menu over at Kitchen Heat. It's a bit darker than my usual fare, but satisfying nonetheless. Actually, it was a bit like a kidney stone: it had to come out, but it was a painful process. Check out the corresponding blog post for a full rundown of the track list.

What about Rotary vs. Linear faders? I was playing around with a Rane Empath Rotary yesterday afternoon and it seemed so much smoother than conventional linear faders. Is it worth the extra cost?

In that case, I would implore you to save up a bit more cash and get some proper CD players and a real mixer. Those all-in-one units are a maintenance nightmare. At least with separate CD players and mixer, if one goes you only have to replace part of your set-up.

I would urge you to consider real turntables. Learn to beatmatch with vinyl and everything else is easy. You can get half-decent decks, mixer, cans, carts and all for £249. Another thing to consider is that turntables means you could also go Serato/Finalscratch/Torq at a later date

I thought it was a bit more than I was willing to pay, too. That is until I started shopping around. The big plus is the Firewire; it's a much more reliable conduit than USB, but doesn't enjoy equivalent support from manufacturers. Similar units include Echo AudioFire4, Edirol FA-66, Hercules...

This is the one I have: Presonus Firebox. Firewire, MIDI, balanced ins and outs; it is everything I need. It was very reasonably priced here in Canada and came with it's own copy of Cubase.

Disappointingly few responses. Why is the Dissensus massive so silent on the subject of decent gear? C'mon lads; help a guy out.

Right now I'm running a Numark DM1885X. It had everything I wanted at the time: 5 channels & kill switches. It's well laid out and, unlike the Pioneers, my fingers don't hit the adjascent knobs when I'm fiddling the EQ. I wish it had an effects section instead of the 16bit sampler, but you...

I found the Sennheiser's to be uncomfortable and the cord was way too short. Also, they're like $300CAD (140GBP) a pair here.

In the market for new gear? Looking for the most bang for your buck/punch for your pound/explosion for your euro? Me too. So, let's hear some opinions. Obviously, Pioneer have the market mostly cornered with they're CDJ-1000, but at $1500CAD (~700GBP) each they're totally unaffordable. I've...

Everybody needs a little house now and then. What is it that you like about it, ripley? That remix is pretty stripped down, IRRC. Not much more than a wailing diva over a drum track.
