Female artists doing it for you right now...

Frida Hyvonen - a dirtier and more hygenic (she's Scandanavian) Laura Nyro Jolie Holland - enchanting country blues with an otherworldly Dock Boggs quality...

What are the key 'indie' albums of the 00s..so far

seconded (LP more so than EP)...and for what it's worth, Tomorrow Never Comes includes the best song title (and best song) I've heard in donkey's: "All You Need Is Love Was Not True"...now there's an anthem I can get behind!...

    great unlikely collaborations

seems to me this is a recipe for something really unique...I mean, why bother collaborating with somebody that shares your interests?...what does one expect to get out of that?

    great unlikely collaborations

it's real...as Ned said, it's basically a squelchier version of "Slave 4 U", with the requisite DFA cowbells...it's hard to say who's running the show here, Britney or DFA...(the song fits them both very well, perhaps the best sign of a good collaboration)...

    richie hawtin CD @ Mixmag

The Dextrous I'm t'inking of did that track "Heavenly Body", which was as close as Jungle ever came to emulating Burt Bacharach, and is one of my favorites from the golden era of drum n' bass (93-95)...

    great unlikely collaborations

    DFA and Britney Spears...really good

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers thread (not much love to be found here)

well, maybe that was a bit of a cheap shot...Living Colour were not so much bad as bland, which is really a sin for a funk/metal band...and Corey Glover and that way he mimicked Kiedis' making-perpendicular-air-slashes-with-his-karate-chop-hand (if that makes any sense)...one of the main reasons...

colbert roasts bush - required viewing

especially if he had seen V For Vendetta...I'm surprised he didn't make a joke on his show about expecting to get "bagged"...

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers thread (not much love to be found here)

do not forget that RHCP were somewhat responsible for the abomination that was Living Colour... and that new video: I am soo sick of the whole "bands of yore" conceit...it was funny and fresh when Nirvana did it, but now it's just another tired convention...

    great unlikely collaborations

obvious to the point of being trite: Run DMC and Aerosmith...yet you can't underrate this on any front: sonic, cultural or political...

    My Bloody Valentine thread

yes, Medicine's first 2 albums were truly great, like MBV w/ beats...I've not heard the Electric Company stuff, nor the recent (well, 2 years ago) Medicine release...(I think the cover art on that one scared me away!)

    My Bloody Valentine thread

right on...thanks!...(I'm sure I'll forget it again) on the whole MBV/sexuality angle, there is certainly a latent eroticism in their music, but the moments when they just went for it always struck me as awkward and embarassing...(anybody listen to the lyrics to "Slow" recently?)
